crash

Twice now the game has crashed and closed without saving shortly after I stepped onto level two. Hard to say what triggered it. Both times there has been a rat in the room when I took the stairs up, but that is probably a coincidence.

Welcome back! Long time no see!

If you are running Windows, there should be a file in your Tome4 directory labelled STDOUT. Copy and paste the contents in here next time you get a crash.

DG would be particularly interested in the output at the point of the crash (i.e at the end). Try not to rerun when you get a crash but save the file (or post).

I can reliably promise that I wasn't do that because I haven't got new speakers for my computer yet. I haven't heard the music yet!

I've had this happen a couple of times today. Been playing for about a week and these were the first times I've seen it. I didn't do anything with the music, I have my speakers off. I was on level two of the trollshaws. There was a stderr.txt created but it was empty.I didn't notice anything in the stdout.txt file that looked unusual, here's the end of the file:

I had the game crash suddenly again. I had just finished the trollshaws part of the first quest, went back to town and was heading to Amon Sul. When I clicked '>' to go down the game just crashed. I brought the game up again and I was back in Bree before the trollshaws. When I went back to the shaws all the levels were fully explored and the monsters had regenerated a little bit but not back to the level of a fully unexplored zone. Bill the stone troll was no where to be found, I guess because I'd already killed him but that portion of the quest was marked as incomplete still.

It looks like the game didn't save when left the trollshaws but the zone was saved.

Yes zones are persisted to disk on zone changes to preserve some (a lot of) memory.

I still believe the crashes are music related, we'll see soon :)

Just had the crash again. No stderr created. Again I had just gone up stairs, so I think that might be related?

Just had another one on the second beta...sadly, no rdout saved. I was running from a point a to point b and I think it stopped either in between or after I reached the destination.

Gwai informs me that I should mention that I was not messing with the music, it was playing per default.

A part of me died inside after I got to level 14 and into the Sandworm Lair and then the game stopped working. In my case the screen wouldn't show up properly, it was only showing my desktop inside the program.

I also had a crash on Beta 2 (WinXP) today, but I'm guessing the log is overwritten. It was in the Trollshaws, level 2 I think. Definitely not associated with up or down stairs though. Also not associated with music- haven't touched it yet (volume down). Just walking, up near the top of the map. Maybe level 2?

I crash every time I enter the elven ruins. hmmm. (win 7, 32)
