Re: New Challenge (Insane Level)
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I thought this challenge was supposed to be for beating the game while killing as few creatures as possible...

And it was such a good idea...

You are quite correct, but those creatures you have to kill are very strong...Xandor Tik'Roth wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I thought this challenge was supposed to be for beating the game while killing as few creatures as possible...

Re: New Challenge (Insane Level)
The Melkor worshiping assassin is working out well. I have just killed the Necromancer- my first kill. http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=9692
The basic idea was to get him away from other uniques, mass genocide everything else, Curse him a few times, and then melee. I used the triple-immunity armor and Angrist. Angrist didn't do much until the ongoing Curses lowered his armor and hit points.
I collected armor and books in the Sandworm Lair with the help of a companion Ethereal Dragon who was great for taking out the residents.
The current armor and mage staff protects me against accidental kills quite well.
There was a good market in the Old Forest- potions, scrolls, speed rings, jewelry, and library. That got me maxed stats and the various randart rings.
I haven't decided where to put the rest of my points.

Re: New Challenge (Insane Level)
Well, I won. Total kills were 7:
The Necromancer
Sauron
Morgoth
a ball lightning (accidentally ran into it while fighting Morgoth)
3 friendly uniques
Apparently I got credit when they got killed. One of the eagles was killed while I was trying to get a dragon corpse for steal-scumming. The other two I never even saw- they must have been in vaults in Angband. This is a real pain- I tried to remember to dismiss pets every time I entered a level, but that is hard when I am level scumming. Maybe I could have macroed it.
I almost got Orfax, also. Morgoth summoned him and I decided to whack him to slow him down. Unfortunately Angrist is poisonous and he is sensitive. I had to chase him down and toss a *healing* potion at him. I should have just teleported him away.
Edit: For character dump, see my previous post above.
Edit2: The first three are the necessary kills for the win. The remaining four were accidental.
I consider it unfair to have the three uniques on there, since I didn't do anything to kill them and didn't get any experience points for them.

Well done by the way, like to see the char dump!

So, if I understand correct, the game can be won with even less kills?

Amazing work!
How did you do the house quests?

Re: New Challenge (Insane Level)
I had high level companions- an ethereal dragon and a GDQ. This works on any of the quests that don't involve killing uniques. So I couldn't do Eol, the Wight King, and so on. By the time I was ready for the spider quest, my stats were already maxed, so there was no point in doing that one.bio_hazard wrote:Amazing work!

... but IIRC uniques can still be killed by shards (cuts) or poison from companions. Or did I dream that?
Oh, and I do agree that allies being killed by enemies should not count towards your kill count. Sure, you could dismiss all "pets" when entering a level, but the whole idea of your pets being killed counting towards *your* kill total is absurd.
Re: New Challenge (Insane Level)
Shoob said above in this thread that shard/poison kills by your pets count as your kills. So they could kill the uniques, but it would then up your kill count.
