Some of these sound like "conduct challenges", the sort of voluntary thing NetHack records in your character sheet for bonus bragging rights.

Since ToME has an online character sheet and an achievement system, some of these could be accomplished just by putting in "conduct achievements".

Like a Rogue who never uses Stealth or Invisibility, that should be an achievement if you win.

Should we start listing those, too? Conduct challenges and achievements?
  • Doomed that never invest in or use Shadows.
Reavers that never fight with a staff.
A Necromancer that never invests in Necrotic Minions.
A Wyrmic that only uses one (or two?) Wyrmic trees.
A Solipsist who fully invests in Solipsism. Bonus for as early as possible? Another bonus for putting in the full 20 points in the tree?
In general, except for Undead, characters who never activate a regeneration infusion?

Or do I have the completely wrong idea?

We be talking in the 'Preventing over the top skill point juggling' thread about dealing with respecs and such.

I'm throwing in this one since it actually merrily fits in with Challenge Modes:

No Respecs - You cannot respec your character, what you pick is what you have for the rest of the game.

Additionally to throw it out there - maybe this specific challenge could be on by default for some difficulties or game modes.

Using a pre-written build isn't necessarily a challenge, and "optimal" re-spec will vary widely by class. Newer, better designed classes may not have an optimal re-spec at all.

So sometimes this "challenge" is going to be so trivial, it happens naturally (without effort).

But it would disallow cheesing points into skills - something that matters a fair bit on a class like Arcane Blade.

This is a problem because? I mean with a challenge like Outcast in here I could say the same for; and I have pretty well already made a Halfling Rogue that never really used stealth but won the game - Drop all pretense might as well be considered trivial since a player may not really care about stealth.

If it is really a problem then achievements that might be based on challenges could just be limited to those that mattered - so an Arcane Blade for example it would matter and it could gain an achievement. Could also allow for a challenge like Hated to be available for all player combinations as well - while for the Cursed they alone are capable of getting an achievement from it.

Because it seems more like a Conduct cheevo than a "challenge".

But then again, I guess so are some other "challenge" proposals.

I actually think Conduct Mode is a rather fitting name - and then we simply have 'Challenge Achievement' for Conduct combinations that are more difficult.

...One Man Leaves
You may not leave a level (at ALL) until all enemies are killed.

Too similar to the other one?
