Can't get past loading screen for New Game

Hello,
I just bought the game and finally got around to installing Tome4 to my new Laptop.
I first installed using the provided link on Indie Royale, had a problem where I could not get past the loading screen (it got to 100% and kept flickering, I left it there for about 10 minutes and I never got to the character creation screen.)
I uninstalled the game and downloaded the installer avaiable on the official website. It updated fine and installed, making the shortcuts and everything.
I tested and was able to get to the character creation screen, however I had to go to work and quit the game and turned off my laptop.
When I came back i fired the game up and, unfortunately, I can't seem to get to the character creation screen again, same bug where I get stuck at 100% on the loading screen.
Can anyone help? :?

Strangely enough the Steam version works and I've been able to play.
However, I don't want to feel constrained to using Steam whenever I want to play, especially because I find myself with no internet connection for long periods due to work related trips, which impedes running the game. If anyone has any known solution, I'd be glad to hear it, I've alredy combed through the forums to no avail.

Strange, they are identical except for the steam stuff; but I do not see how it could affect running..
Did you try the normal version afetr running the steam one ?

The game has always crashed on me the first time you run it, whatever version you use since day one. You don't need to redownload or reinstall, just kill the process and restart the game. Probably some check at start that fails the first time the game is installed (file? registry entry?).

I found I had to disable the 'Indie Royale' add-on to get the game to go past the load screen. Some sort of bug in it keeps it hung up after it hits 100%. :c

What does the Indie Royale add to the game?

Edit:
Found once I had a game going I can turn it back on and load the save game. Just freezes up if I try to start with it on.

That would be because you can't turn an addon on for a saved game.
Adjusting which addons are loaded would cause saved games to implode.

Ahh, that stinks. I'm guessing then that there is something wrong with the addon from Desura making it not compatible with the latest version of the game. :c

Yep. Same thing happens. I'm running the linux version of TOME that I got from Daily Royale and if the bonus addon is selected the game won't start. It will freeze when the loading bar goes to 100% before entering the character creation screen, just like you experienced! :( At least thank you for finding it out... I would never remembered to try to deactivate that addon!

According to the .txt in the addon .zip it adds six new special bonus artifacts, available from your Fortress

Running on Windows 7 pro x64 and through the Steam version though doubt there is really much difference. I've sent in a support ticket also and also sent a support ticket to Daily Royal though I expected their reply to contact the Devs about it. It was more of to bring the issue to their attention also.

Just bumping this thread because I have the same problem with the IndieRoyale add-on. It's definitely that specific add-on - everything works fine with it manually disabled.

Any suggestions? Things I can do to help solve the problem?

You've already done it. The authors of the addon will have to update it, other wise you'll have to keep it disabled and do without it. The other option is to download an older version of ToME to use with the addon.

It's DarkGod's own addon.

I'd be happy to debug it myself (I'm comfortable with LUA), but I don't even know where to look for whatever error is blocking the game from loading.

Hehe. Oops. I guess pester DG then.

Look at the te4_log.txt file in the same dir as the game EXE. It should give you the pertinent errors.

Uh that addon was part of a very specific promotion, how is it still available is beyond me :/
i'll note to update it, where did you grab it from ? desura ?

No, I've had it all this time, but after originally discovering that it was a problem, I turned it off and forgot about it. I just happened to look at my addon list again last night, and figured I'd give it a second shot.

The download link is perpetually available if you bought it from that bundle, although I doubt it's available new from anywhere else.

Edit2: It looks like all that's needed is to comment out
