Rush is a great talent. I'm not sure how it's a "waste" to get it. The problem is, if you're up against a strong ranged enemy, you're not going to beat it at its own game. Melee classes will always be better in melee (otherwise, there'd be no point to archers). Why would you want to fight a ranged enemy in a way that negates most of your advantages?

Yeah the only legit case for a melee guy using a ranged weapon / wand / whatever is that he's up against a melee brute who he doesn't want to face in melee.

Or a low-level plant.

Melee characters are always better at melee than at range; the issue arises when one can't melee for whatever reason (too often have I had my wild infusions fail to remove a condition in a critical situation). Then the melee character is worthless.

If you can't melee, it's time to push the escape button and try again later. If your escape button gets disabled, hit the backup escape button ASAP. Giving you the option to flail about with a basic Shoot command would just let you twitch a bit more as you died.

I'd like a "Go down fighting when all my escape options are gone" button. That way, it feels earned. If I had to just walk towards that enemy that disabled all my panic buttons, and negated my advantages, it would be an exercise in self-control to not just scrap the character there.

Well sometimes I'd like to do a small burst of damage to that squishy but annoying mage just over there, but I don't want to move as this would unblock a choke point.

I suppose another worthwhile question is "Does this negatively impact the game?"

Strategically, I think not.
Tactically, I think not.
Replayability-wise, I still don't think so.

So why not add it? Even a trial addon would probably be fine...
