It used to set your paradox to a desired amount, but a couple betas ago it was changed to just decrease. As of right now the only way to boost paradox is to cast spells.noxnoctum wrote:How? I thought it was only for reducing paradox.bricks wrote:Practically everything in ToME is 'just using abilities,' but I guess you mean something other than active talents. <Ferret> The Spellblaze was like a nuclear disaster apparently: ammo became the "real" currency.
Re: Dumb questions thread
Ah ok that's what I thought.
Also, is there a difference between the mechanics of invisibility and stealth? (i.e. the invisibility you get from Phantasm tree vs Stealth tree)
And finally, what is luck and what role does it play? It wasn't mentioned in tutorial.

TWs are very versatile and I think practically any way to spend you category points could be made to work.
That being said, scatter shot is very nice.

Addons: Arcane Blade Tweaks, Fallen Race, Monk Class, Weapons Pack
Currently working on Elementals. It's a big project, so any help would be appreciated.

^ OK, thanks, and I ended up going that way anyways. I basically said to myself, "Hey, an AoE ranged stun? That sounds like that stop spell, but I don't need to try to invest into magic and I'm great with ranged weapons."

See stealth increases with Cunning while see invisibility doesn't increase with any stat, and the can-see calculations are different in a way that makes it a lot more likely to catch a fleeting glimpse of stealthy actors. Otherwise they're the same.noxnoctum wrote:Also, is there a difference between the mechanics of invisibility and stealth? (i.e. the invisibility you get from Phantasm tree vs Stealth tree)

Luck affects a lot of things a little bit. You should be able to check your character sheet for the changes. Mostly it's only worth worrying about specifically if you are a halfling, a rogue or stealth shadowblade (it affects the Unseen Actions chance), or an archmage (your luck modifier is the chance for you to spontaneously not get hit by your own spells; Spellcraft gives an effective +100 to this calculation, so if you have negative luck from the Pearl or something you will have a small chance to hit yourself).

Re: Dumb questions thread
Hmm so I guess invisibility would be more powerful then right? Since the only way a monster would see you is if they have an appropriate item?

Re: Dumb questions thread
Yes, which is why invisibility nerfs your damage and keeps you from healing.

Many monsters also have intrinsic see invisible.noxnoctum wrote:Hmm so I guess invisibility would be more powerful then right? Since the only way a monster would see you is if they have an appropriate item?
Re: Dumb questions thread
Anyone willing to upload an allow_build that includes Solipsist?
Thanks a lot
Thanks a lot

Re: Dumb questions thread
You can just add the line yourself
It's the mindslayer unlock line, just with the mindslayer bit replaced by solipsist.
Speaking of the Solipsist, would 100% conversion in the first talent in the solipsism tree (Damage>psi) make you effectively immortal, or go to hp after reaching 0 psi? I mean, if all damage is converted to psi damage, there's nothing left to hurt your hp bar. And getting 100% is plenty doable with a cat point. I'd test it, but I'm tired :c

Re: Dumb questions thread
Yeah, once the psi is gone you start taking HP damage. Not much to say beyond that, really.
It does take a single cat (or an appropriately strong mastery amulet, I guess...) to hit 100% conversion, but that's all.

Re: Dumb questions thread
What causes the online portion to not work? Right now it won't connect for me even though my internet is obviously working fine.
Usually restarting the game fixed it but it hasn't this time.
Also, what save does a monster perform to avoid the effect of TW's "Stop" and "Banish"?

Re: Dumb questions thread
Stop tries to apply a physical effect (Stun), so it's saved against with p. save.
Banish is, I think, resisted by spell save.

Re: Dumb questions thread
The Archmage's Arcane Power skill, how does it work? I only get, at most, half a boost of what the description claims. Also manathrust makes pityful damage when compared to flame and lighting, both of which are tier 1 skills, any reason for that?
Re: Dumb questions thread
That is due to the tiering system. For values between 20 and 40, it takes two points of "raw" spellpower to increase your "tiered" spellpower by one. It takes 3 above 40, 4 above 60, and 5 above 80.Horrigan wrote:The Archmage's Arcane Power skill, how does it work? I only get, at most, half a boost of what the description claims.
Manathrust has some advantages over Flame and Lightning. Arcane damage is very rarely resisted, and it deals all of its damage instantly, unlike Flame, and always deals full damage, unlike Lightning (which has a range).
