Re: Dumb questions thread
Ok what's up with paradox? I'm playing a temporal warden now and was using precognition over and over to test various approaches to a boss fight, but on like the 5th time it sent me to the death plane when my "future self" died rather than cancel the precognition! But then, when I selected "sent me somewhere else" and checked my character sheet it shows no lives lost... so which is it?
Also how do I tell the chance of causing an anomaly etc? Cause I had 0% chance of anomaly on "spacetime tuning" but ended up causing a zero gravity zone while in precognition, even though I had 0% chance of causing it.
Oh ya and is there a way to store stuff somewhere?

Unless it was changed, skill failure based on resources (paradox/equilibrium) use your current level + the skill's cost to determine failure chance. It's confusing.noxnoctum wrote:Also how do I tell the chance of causing an anomaly etc? Yes. You can access it around level 16+. Saying anything else would be spoilerific. Otherwise, you can drop items in vaults, as items in vaults never disappear.noxnoctum wrote:Oh ya and is there a way to store stuff somewhere?
Sorry about all the parentheses (sometimes I like to clarify things).
Re: Dumb questions thread
Can you explain a bit more about the skill failure thing? What's the algorithm/equation? Is it tested against an opponents saving throws?bricks wrote:Sounds like a bug.noxnoctum wrote:Ok what's up with paradox? Re: Dumb questions thread
Paradox/equilibrium-related failures don't check against saves. The equations are a little complicated, so I'll point you towards this (http://svn.net-core.org/repos/t-engine4 ... /Actor.lua). The part you are looking for starts with "--- Equilibrium check", try ctrl-f on that. Apart from mechanics there shouldn't be anything spoilery in that file. The username/password is guest/guestor, respectively.
The TLDR version: Equilibrium failures start happening with your equilibrium exceeds your willpower, and the chance increases with the square-root of (equilibrium - willpower). Paradox is similar but failures don't start until your (paradox - willpower) exceeds 200. Paradox failure chance increases with the square of your paradox level, and is increased by fatigue, so it increases rather fast. The Paradox Mastery increases the effective paradox reduction of your willpower up to 150%. Anomalies kick in at 300 effective paradox, and backfires at 400.
Edit: Minor correction; talent cost does not go into failure chance.

Re: Dumb questions thread
Hmmm ok thanks seems pretty complicated :p.
Quick question, can I unlock marauder with shadow blade?

Re: Dumb questions thread
Not in this beta. Next beta, yes, apparently. For now, only rogue.
Re: Dumb questions thread
How do you unlock the solipsist class? I thought I just had to go trough the volcano, but beating its boss didnt do anything. Also whoever designed that zone should be shot, it was one of the most unfunny, frustrating, nonsense things I've ever played in my 20 years of gaming, specially when it didnt unlock anything in the end and almost melted my PC.
Re: Dumb questions thread
Hi,
sorry for this (maybe) dumb question. I want to give ToME a try after very good experience with ADoM but as I can see, it's still in a "beta" stage. I didn't find somewhere in the main page what this exactly means (what still missing, what has to be done for full completion). ToME has been voted as best roguelike in 2011 so it must be quite complex... But still, I don't want to play something which is unfinished. So my question is which parts of this really nice (really really nice) looking game are fully playabe and which are don't.
Thank You

Play it. Like Dwarf Fortress this is an awesome game despite not being completely done.Artran wrote:Hi,

Unlike Dwarf Fortress this game is actually close to being "finished"
Just play it.

Re: Dumb questions thread
More specifically, the game's pretty close to coming out of the beta stage, apparently, which means content is close, at least, to being mostly implemented. All classes that are in are fleshed out and not missing anything, everything that's actually in the game doesn't have odd dead-ends or anything, the game's playable from start to finish without issue, so far as content etc. is concerned. So far as that goes, at most, there's just some (likely awesome, to complement all the current awesome!) stuff that DG and co still intend to stuff into the world.
Most of what's left is balance, bug fixing, and polish et al, so far as I know. T4's been quite complete for several months now, really. It's been winnable for much longer than that. It's certainly as finished as, say, ADoM is, in my opinion.

Re: Dumb questions thread
I see. If it's only about balance, bugfixing and polishing, it's ok. I just wanted to know if the whole core of the game is finished (all skills, main quests etc.). Thanks, I'll divide my time between NetHack (which I started to play couple of weeks ago) and T4. I'm quite thrilled what's waiting for meFrumple wrote:More specifically, the game's pretty close to coming out of the beta stage, apparently, which means content is close, at least, to being mostly implemented. Re: Dumb questions thread
What would be a good thing for an archery focused TW with Epoch's bow to spend their second category point on? A movement infusion? Some kind of rune? The locked archery category?

Re: Dumb questions thread
Is there any way to make your paradox go up other than just using abilities? I mean something ya know... faster? Sort of like the sustain that reduces paradox but the opposite

Re: Dumb questions thread
Practically everything in ToME is 'just using abilities,' but I guess you mean something other than active talents. Spacetime tuning can be used to dial your paradox up, if desired.noxnoctum wrote:Is there any way to make your paradox go up other than just using abilities? I mean something ya know... faster? Edit: Whoops, guess not. See next two posts.
That probably goes beyond the scope of a dumb question, to be honest. Movement infusions and shielding runes are always nice, IMO.Un67 wrote:What would be a good thing for an archery focused TW with Epoch's bow to spend their second category point on? How? I thought it was only for reducing paradox.bricks wrote:Practically everything in ToME is 'just using abilities,' but I guess you mean something other than active talents.
