By request, I'm releasing a new addon, Auto-usable Wards, for those who like the Ward talent conferred by various ego items and would like to use it with the game's auto-use infrastructure. What this addon does is effectively split the Ward talent into two talents: Choose Ward, via which you select the type of ward to use, and Apply Ward, which actually applies the ward (hence the name, in both cases). I do not actually make much if any use of wards myself, but I am assured that this arrangement will make it easier to auto-use wards.
Pushing out v1a with a fix for a bug reported on the Steam page: taking off the item that was the source of the Apply Ward talent no longer cancels the Ward effect. [Incidentally, I think this is actually a bug in the original game, and the effect is supposed to be canceled in this case; but because the engine lacks a genuinely blocking dialog callback, the Ward talent is "finished" by the time you choose the ward type from the chat dialog, so the game doesn't know the effect came from the talent, and thus doesn't know it's supposed to cancel the effect when you unlearn the talent. Since it's the current behavior, though, and people apparently depend on it, we'll reproduce it.]
Also in this release, we make an effort to make sure your ward chosen via the Choose Ward talent actually reflects the available wards. So for instance, if you choose a physical ward, then take off your warded item and wield another warded item that doesn't have a physical ward, your choice will be cleared. If your new warded item does have physical wards but with a different number of charges, that will be updated in your choice. If I've done this right, this should behave sensibly if you're wearing multiple warded items at once and juggle them, and should keep your ward choice if you take off your single warded item and re-wield the same item.
