Unbelievably, he made it. I dropped a hydra next to Rantha, and the war hound conveniently disappeared. Dropped a Fire Imp in the southeast corner of the clearing. Together they took Rantha down without killing the escortee.

BAHAHAHAHA

I can imagine the adventurer and Rantha being in on it together - that's the fifth repented thief they've "escorted". They go through his pockets, divide up the gold, and go back to wait for the next one .
