What's the trick with dealing damage to boss? I don't waste another life on it. Whenever I hit it it always zero damage, physical or flame. May be I should try to hit only his tentacles instead?

I think that initially you guys can't do damage to him because he has bone shield up...just keep whacking him and it'll be fine (I think, then again I did retreat through the stair once...)...my Sun Paladin did just that, whack him + firebeam + assault + searing light...although you need to keep whacking him because he have regeneration and healing rune...
Why can't TOME 4 has a secret room where you can represent game bugs as, well, enemies you can crush like in Divine Divinity? That would be cool...

He seems don't have bone shield - it's not shown on his status tab. Killing tentacles help but he has only one tentacle out and don't respawn it after tentacle killed, so it only get him to 85%.All attack on boss itself always produce 0 damage. After another 2 deaths I recalled.

Not sure about the showing in status tab, but if he has white orbs orbiting him, then that means bone shield is active...and I didn't remember anything about tentacle...err...weird...

It didn't have any white orbs or other auras, just pure h. Tentacle was lighter-gray h
PS After talk at IRC it was cleared it was not a boss, just random monster with 500% resistance

Beat it too now that I learnt I didn't need to get a water breathing item. First used Earth's Eyes to find the exit then returning to the stairs to fight if I found a mob on the way.

The boss was silly easy. One golem and one ritch flamespitter beat him while I was watching. I did use the burninator for one hit but don't think that mattered much.

Sorry for the sound being out of sync towards the end.

Gandolfo wrote: The confusing part is that I thought that like with portralis I could just grab the updated lua files and pop them in but it is extraordinarily unclear how this would work if it all. Now it sounds like you need to compile it and again even having the version number doesn't help with that. So yeah stuck waiting along with you and most everyone else.
Some versions of the game do require recompiling since components of the engine are written in C and this being beta features do still get added there. Most of the time a simple replacement of Lua files would suffice, though. You can do this by removing the game folder in your ToME installation and replacing it with a game folder from a SVN checkout if you want to give it a try.
<DarkGod> lets say it's intended

whats this whole tentacle thing you guys are talking about?

I have yet to see any kind of tentacle, just him alone getting thrashed in about 3 turns. 2 archmages and 1 alchemist have both taken him down with minimal damage to me.

And how can I expand my fort, is anything other than storage area implemented yet?

I think it's just storage for now. To be honest it's pretty useless - I never had a need for storage space anyway.

It would be cool if the contents of your storage were posted online under you char profile, then people could brag about how many artifacts they have collected.

then we could make challenge games like back in the day, whoever collected the most junk won, i think broken sticks were worth the most points.

Where's all the flavor items like shards of pottery, broken swords, etc??????

Tome 2 was awesome :o

It's a randomly generated unique monster. It happened to show up in Sher'Tul Fortress for someone in this thread, who was confused and thought it was the boss of that zone. It's not.

Did it at last with shadowblade and amulet of the fish. Lost 2 lifes to horrors, but the boss itself was more like janitor ))) Fortress is impressive and mysterious ))) Storage is atmosferic

OK, I have beaten the boss and stuck the rod in the thingy (ooo-err). Couple of questions:

- The quest is not yet complete, last line of the journal is:
You have activated what seems to be a... butler? with your rod of recall
What have I not done ?

- You guys are talking about a storage room. So does that mean I can just drop items at the bottom of the map and they'll stay there?

(Decided to go with multiple lives, so finally made it through the sand hole - cost of two lives)

Quest is not finished yet, and probably will not be any time soon as DarkGOd will add more and more rooms :)

Yep, it also automatically sort items. Don't drop rechargeable artifacts in it though, they may stop recharge.
