A new newbie with questions

#1 Post by shwqa »

Hello I'm a new comer to TOME. I got some Roguelike experience under my belt but not much. Anyways I'm having a hard time doing anything in this game. I can get to level 16-20 on normal or easy mode but I'm not sure where to go after that. Magic just keeps destroying me. I started playing easy just to unlock classes but I'm not having luck. I just lost my last character to my mouse sticking down and attacking a Urkis, the High Tempest normally for 5+ turns but that was after he killed me once before. Anyways I got some questions:

1) First off how do I get magic to stop destroying me? My level 20 easy Wyrmic had 12% all resist. anti magic shield up, and the first skill in anti magic. That is -30% damage (easy), -12% damage (resist) -20ish damage (anti magic shield) and -7% for the first anti magic skill with 852 life. I still couldn't kill the high tempest boss or the master. They could kill me in 2-3 turns easy. If I lucky I could silence them then stun them but that doesn't allows work so I have to be lucky or die.

2) What do I do next? I have done the storm of the city quest and all the dungeons other than the one that show up randomly and the one with the master. I normally finish, in this order, trollmire, old forest, Ruins, Kill cursed boss, Kill Rogue Lord, Maze, Daikia. This is where I start getting stuck, what should I do next? I would normally try to figure it out myself but this is like the 8+ character to die at this point without much progress.

You did antimagic quest and call yourself a newbie? ROFL. After all 4 "into the darkness" missions you should see a new quest - dreadfell or something tower, on south shore near lava. BTW did you skip sandworm qeen?
About being killed by magic I'm no better then your. Stll didn't do the tower.

Yeah I have done all 4 for the 2nd quest but that tower is what got me killed

edit: there is a bug for the anti-magic quest. If you die then next time you do the quest there will be 2 enemies. If you kill all but the orc you still win. I could have taken him so I was a little disappointed

Stun resistance. Stun resistance. Stun resistance.

For Urkis specifically, it would also be helpful to grab a ring of lightning resistance, typically from the Angolwen store. For Daikara, sometimes a cold resistance ring helps. (Finding Frost Treads early is also a huge bonus, but you can't rely on that....)

Since Wyrmics don't get any stun resistance talents, that means you're stuck farming for an armor of stability (70% stun resistance), which you can then stack with other stuff. Successfully saving an Anorithil is 30% (Hymn of Perseverance - just remember not to activate the hymn until you've done antimagic!). A quartz ring is 30%. A Shaloran hat is 20%. There's an amulet that's 15%, and another that's 10%, I believe. There are boots of stability as well, either 20% or 30%, I forget which, but they're rather rare. So, yeah, you could actually get stun resistance without the armor of stability by stacking 3 items with the Anorithil hymn, but that's an awful lot of slots. Better to scum the stores in Zigur and Last Hope.

1) For the tempest quest, collect lightning resistance and stun resistance equipment and a teleport mean. Tempests and other *mancers have a resistance reducing talent, so a low lightning resistance will not help you in the fight against Urkris (but against storm dragons and thunderers). You need stun resistance against freezing and dazing attacks, ideally at 100% (immunity), but it is possible to do it with a lower stun resistance if your hit points are high enough.

Learn to dodge incoming projectiles: the caster loses ressources and the turn, you lose your turn. If done right, you can even lead another adjacent enemy in your old position and take the hit. But beware, it is not always a good solution.

Flee (e.g. by teleport) and heal your wounds if you took some damage or your best talents are on cooldown. The boss will find you (and trigger all traps on his way to you), so try to find a place favourable to your class and fighting style. Ideally, clear the whole level before the boss fight. A good position for melee fighters is one away from a corner.

2) You need to kill the master to continue the game. There are some random dungeons and encounters that are available in the west, but if you have problems with the master, don't follow screams for help in one random encounter.

I have more problem with confusion then stun. What willpower should I have vs snow giants at diakara at lvl 20? I have 21-22 and get occasional confusions

Willpower doesn't help much. Most important thing is to break line of sight with them and wait for them to come to you. In melee they don't use the confuse attack as often, especially if you kill them.

other thing you should note/know is that urkis has a damage shield. every time you hurt him, whether in melee or with magic you will take damage. thought he was just casting back and I confirmed damage shield from spells when I froze him.
