Possesor and Summoner idea

#1 Post by Sradac »

Bring possesors back!

I would also suggest magic eater (my absolute fav class from entro/hengband) but there really arent enough kinds of staves/wands/rods to do them with.

Or bring back the old school summoner, maybe even as an unlockable tree. I never liked the term "totems" but they were cool none the less. Maybe ...........

A tree focused on capturing and later releasing the natural spirits of creatures (Maybe it only works on animals/dragonkin/insects, you know, things from "nature")

Wilder / Spirit Caller (Or spirit harvesting, or something else, someone come up with a better name)
1. Primal Harvest - Sustained costs 5 Equilibrium per use. On rank 1, each enemy YOU kill (not your pets) has a 5% chance to have its soul captured, which you can use as a one time item to create a "partial totem" effect. Short duration, 1 use summon. Each rank increases chance to harvest by 5%.

2. Kindred Spirits - passive. Each time you harvest a soul, there is a 1% chance a duplicate soul will be harvested. Each rank increases this chance by 1%

3. Spirit Echoes - Sustained - each time this effect happens, costs 3 equilibrium. When one of your spirit summons expires, there is a 2% chance the spirit will be added back to your inventory. +2% per point.

4. Restless Spirits - Passive - Increases duration of your called spirits by X% / xturns. Would depend on spirit calling duration.

These summons would have NO limit on how many you can have at a time (bringing back the awesome feel from original summoner) but to balance they would have a very short duration, maybe 10 turns?

Adding this as a new tree would be cool, but, the more I look at it the more I think it would make a really cool whole new wilder class, the Spirit Caller.

EDIT -----

Obviously some things might have to be turned off when something is summoned. Like if you got a white worm mass, turn off spawning. Turn off jelly splitting. One of the easiest exploits of tome 2 as a summoner was to get a white mouse / rat true totem, summon it in the swamps around bree, wait a few hundred turns for them to breed explosively, and you were free to roam around killing hydras at level one, getting you to level 20 in 10 minutes easily.

EDIT 2 ---------

About to leave work and this idea just popped in my head. Maybe give a tree that gives true totem effects, but you are limited in those. Maybe you can only have a max of 3 "persistant" spirits kept at a time, OR brainstorm! Have those persistent spirits maybe take up a rune/infusion slot! They last forever, can only have one of each spirit at a time, and like the golem, when they die they are on a long cooldown timer (Preferably longer than the golem, since you have other spirits to back you up in the mean time.) Pick your choice dark god, limit of 3 true spirits or have them take up rune/infusion slots!

a possessor class would be cool. although enemies dropping corpses is not really an option, as it was unwieldy and problematic even in T2.
it might be cool to have a sort of cursed style possessor, who flees from body to body of his recently killed opponents. you could switch into the body of any enemy you'd killed in the last, say, 10 turns. the longer you are in the same body, the more it decays, and the more urgent it becomes to find a new one...

Perhaps a possessor based off of corrupters and vim? They'd have a "possess" power that would let you damage an enemy, and have a chance (based on enemy life percentage) to take it over, consuming the target's soul. If you do take it over, you get back a fair amount of vim - but the possess power at that point is a sustain, and it costs vim over time. Resources would be life, vim, and corpse resilience (corpse HP). Corpse HP would not recover automatically, but they'd have a power that let them heal it by spending vim. Any damage dealt to you is dealt to the corpse. If corpse HP ever drops to zero, the corpse is destroyed, and you appear on the spot. With some effort, you could keep a positive vim and even keep your corpse healed, but you'd have to keep working to keep your vim up. Have one unlockable tree that encourages you to swiftly move from corpse to corpse (gives you a temporary but very nice buff whenever you make the switch, gives you significantly more vim for taking over a new body, possibly provides an easier way to take control, but ups the vim drain over time of hanging around in a body notably.) and one that encourages you to find a particularly nice corpse and stay with it (by having a long-refresh sustain that eventually augments your body significantly but breaks whenever you switch bodies, and possibly some reasonably efficient means fo acquiring vim that doesn't require you to switch from body to body and/or a way to reduce the vim-drain-over-time)

Way of the Leech

Way of the Hellrider

Way of the Master's Yoke

Way of the Lash and Collar

Way of the Sacrificial Pawn

Lots of good stuff in this thread too.

Looks like it's something planned but not gotten around to yet.
