Tolkienisms

#1 Post by Vee »

The name of the Spidercave "Ardhungol" in The East sounds very much a leftover from Tolkienish names (Sindarin/Quenya in origin?).

Tol Falas is renamed now.
Trollshaws sounds generic to me, but maybe it's not ?

Trollwoods instead of Trollshaws?

Also found another one: "helcaraxe" in the Blood-Letter artifact.

Trollshaws sounds generic to me as well. Trollwoods sounds a little .. meh.
Same with Old Forest - its originally from Tolkien, but generic enough to stay imho.

Should barrow wights be renamed? I know it's fairly generic, but if you stack up all these genericy things then it all gets a bit obvious. They could simply be called "wights", with the higher versions left as is.

Trollshaws... trollmoors?

Don't ask me why though.

Trollmoors are used in more than one place, but they're pretty heavily Forgotten Realms.

Trollmurk?
Trollweald?
Trollwilds?

The Old Forest and the Trolled Forest?

There's enough water in it that it could be called the Trollfen(s).

Trolled Forest? Is that another name for the WoW forums?

I like Trollmoors, as I definitely love FR. The other suggestions are all good, and my opinion on Trollshaws is that it is generic enough.

I found traces of Noldor, Nandor, Eldar for the elves on the wiki (character generation page).
And what about Anorithil? Ungole?

Given that the first page of "Anorithil" on google search is pretty much pure TOME, I think we're fine there. Ungole is certainly remniscent of Cirith Ungole and Ungoliant, but should be pretty much safe. It's remniscent of Tolkein, certainly, but there's a question as to how hard you want to push on that.

I also believe that in your quest log it still says Old Man Willow.

Loremaster Verutir's note still talks about Valinor and the Avari.
