Stealth...

#1 Post by Sradac »

When does it, or does it ever become a useful tactic for a rogue? Trying to focus on stealth tactics early on dosent seem to work well because my cunning isnt high enough. Should I put stealth on the backburner till I can improve other areas of my character?

You can ignore it completely and do well. Or at least that's my opinion on it.

Maybe it becomes good in the endgame, but I never gave it a chance.

Having NOT gotten a stealthed focused character past the Master - I can say this - put the stealth tree OFF [Don't Do It] until you can do resonable, relaiable damage. Stealth in T4 is an ambush tactic - not all powerful like in Angband. You really won't find it too useful until it is at tlvl 5, and you have don't break stealth talent at lvl 5 - and even then you need some stealth boosting kit. Note: This is just for the west - in the prides I don't even know if it is viable.

While gc is correct, you can do perfectly well without stealth at all - it MIGHT be a good tactic for stealth/trap rogues. But again, don't throw all your points into stealth first - get your base damage and survival chances up first. Stealth isn't a survival tactic in t4 - it's an additive attacking talent.

That depends on what you mean by survival tactic. I've had a level 15 rogue on the lightning peak bypass large groups of P to go straight to finding the boss with high enough stealth.

On a related note, does stealth have any effect for a non-rogue character?

No, in the current version you need the stealth talent.
