This requires a mousewheel. is there a way to do it on a laptop with a touchpad and 2 buttons?

Okay, this is weird. I did finish both Trollshaws and the ruins of Kor'Pul (which I assume is the deTolkienized version of Amon Sul), and I'm almost positive I subsequently checked my quest log and found no further quests. However, when I reloaded my game today and started wandering around the wilderness again, I found the trap door quest, and after I'd accepted it I had a look in my quest log and, lo and behold, there was Into the Darkness. I don't know whether I had to quit and restart to find it or whether I was just too tired the last time I was playing....

at the moment I can't think of a way (besides going to stdout.txt, which is probably TMI)

There is the slider on the right side that shows what portion of the log you are on. If this was draggable then it would solve the issue.

Currently there is no pop-up etc. that lets you know you get another quest, though... you should check your Quest log to see if you already have the next quest.

The log DOES show that there is a new quest available I thought...

It does, but the log can scroll by fairly quickly especially when you just killed a boss, as is the case when you get the second world quest.

My laptop with touchpad has two-finger-scroll capability that functions pretty much the same as a mousewheel. It's possible that yours has the same.

It does, but I'd have to re-install the software. Any PC of mine gets an operating system re-install as soon as I get it out of the box. I don't see a need for the gigs of advertising programs put on by the major manufacturers and since this is the only time lack of a mousewheel has ever come up, it's not that huge a deal.

Can you not connect an external mouse with a wheel to it?

It means you move 20% faster - movement only. Speed needs to be displayed uniformly ...

Last 'toon I played found an item with the line 'Maximum Mana:22' on it. What does that mean?

It increases your mana pool by 22, if you have a mana pool.
