Armor vs resistance

#1 Post by Omega Blue »

Say some enemy tosses a 100-point lightning bolt at you.

You have a steel plate armor that gives you 11% lightning resistance. So, would the lightning bolt be reduced by 11%, which gives it a strength 89 attack, then subtract your armor value (say 20, from various sources) from it, making it a 69 point bolt at the end?

Currently, armor only effects 'physical' attacks, meaning it only reduces melee attacks - and if I remember correctly, only melee attacks that deal physical damage.

Armor affect missile attacks as well. High armor makes archers a lot less of a threat. I believe that it affects elemental attachments to melee damage, but I can't say that for sure.

In those cases where a resistance and an armor both apply, I believe that the armor applies first - in fact, I seem to recall someone mentioning that armor applied even before the damage multipliers for enemy skills.

I thought ranged def was the equivalent of armor for missile style attacks.

Nope. Ranged defense is the equivalent of defense for ranged attacks.

Armor does work against most elemental melee attacks. For example. red dragon hatchlings will hit you for 0.00 fire damage if your armor is high enough.

Man, I totally screwed up with my responses on this thread. I obviously have not been paying as much attention in game as I thought I had been.
