This topic made me realize something from my experience with alchemists.
What I miss in the skill trees of the alchemist is some damage-related sinergy between the golem and the bombs:
Catalyst, when your golem gets caught in the blast radius (or only when you directly target it, if it's too powerful otherwise) of your bombs, two things could happen:
1.- Your golem's essence reacts to your bombs. A specific reaction depending the kind of alchemist gem you used on your bomb:
- mana regain/health regen could heal it.
- fixed elemental damage could give him a damage aura for 3 turns.
- +% bomb damage could strengthen your bomb blast in a 1 radius around it.
2.- Refit golem uses alchemist gems, so why shouldn't they alter the esence of the golem itself?* Every time you refit your golem it becomes an "alchemist-gem" golem (opal golem, amethyst golem, etc.) which would react in a fixed way when it gets hit by your bombs.
* This could really bring something to the whole golem matter, what if the alchemist gem also changes the kind of golem you will have. An emerald golem would deal poison damage, but a 'health regen-alchemist gem' golem would heal you everytime your golems deals damage. There's a lot that could be done here, but maybe a measured option (blue/red/white/yellow golem) would be better, to avoid cluttering options.
In my opinion, the golem is lacking something related with alchemy rather than with fighting skills. The reason I went for Final Master's idea of a bomb thrower is because I wasn't really interested in having a golem using powerful melee skills when I could just make a berzerker and do it myself.
Catalyst - a new alchemist tool

Re: Catalyst - a new alchemist tool
I personally like the friendly tanking golem-of-powerful-melee-skills, but this could certainly be a cool addon. The problem is that it would take a lot of coding. If there's going to be a unique effect for each kind of gem, then every one of those needs to be coded.
