World confusion

#1 Post by Thiregan »

Reading this spoiler forum, I find myself confused. Far East, all the dungeons' locations... all these are unknown to me.

Could someone brief me up a bit? Like, what the hell is the Far East nad where is it? Where is Carn Dum, where is the Unremarkable Dungeon? I know the basic ones which have these "exploring quests". I have gotten a guy to level 23, but I can't seem to find good places to clear. All are too hard.

Help.

The Far East is a wholly different continent, which you reach by following the main plotline of the game....did you try visiting the soon-to-be-renamed tower of Tol Falas in the southeast?

As for the unremarkable dungeon and Carn Dum: The former is in the East, while the latter was renamed to Daikara(setting was changed to be non-tolkienan) and moved a bit, but it's still in the mountain range.

Okay.

However, what is the main plot line? All I get in the start is the "explore Trollshaws and another dungeon whose name I don't remember" quest. I defeated the air elementals and their evil master, the Tempest guy. However, nothing led to anything.

Tried Tol Falas once. Died to a skeleton. Damn those stuns. I'll try that again, with a stun immune character.

The Tempest stuff is not the main plotline - it's actually a side-quest.

First main-plotline quest is in fact the one with the Trollshaws and Kor'Pul, after that comes a second quest with 4 different dungeons: Old Forest, Maze, Lair of the Wormqueen and Daikara (not necessarily in this order, but Daikara is pretty hard so better last). The Master - the main boss of Tol Falas (new Name: Dreadfell) drops a nice staff which leads you to the last quest on Maj'Eyal before you can head to the Far East: wether you loose it or not, report to this geezer at Last Hope, who will tell you to check out the dwarfs mines... You'll manage from here for a while, I hope :)

The main plot line is Tol Falas -> Reknor -> Far East -> Orc Prides/Eruan -> Slime Tunnels -> I dunno.

In order for the Tol Falas quest to appear, you need to finish the four "second tier" dungeons: the Old Forest, the Maze, the Sandworm Lair, and Daikara. However, you don't actually need this quest to appear on the list before you can do it. You can (in theory) walk into Tol Falas and whack The Master any time you want. All the dungeons before that are just warm-ups for you.

A level 23 character, properly skilled up and equipped, should be ready for Tol Falas. If you're having trouble surviving, then you can ask specific questions and we'll try to help.

The biggest thing you need to survive is stun resistance, a lot of it -- ideally 100%. Fighters can get that from skills alone (Shield Wall with 4 or more points invested). Some other classes can get 60% or higher stun resistance from their skills. You can find body armor with 70% stun resistance if you're lucky or persistent enough. You can make quartz rings for 30% stun resistance in Angolwen. You can find an amulet with 15%, or another amulet with 10% + a tiny bit of lightning resistance. If you managed to get an Anorithil escort quest, you can get a 30% stun resistance hymn as a reward, and it won't cost you anything to sustain it. And various random artifacts might have some, too.

The second biggest thing is a lot of HP, which you get by boosting Con and investing generic skill points in Health. Every character can buy the tree that contains Health for 50 gold pieces in Last Hope (from the weapon store). Some characters already start with that tree unlocked, so they can save the 50 gp and the trip.

Yeah, I figured stun resistanced is pretty important after getting destroyed by a skeleton warrior from 100% HP in a single stun sequence.

All right, I think I'm ready for another go with a berserker. The Berserker talent is only good for the Stun resistance it gives :P

You may also want to check out the Discovery difficulty mode to get a feeling for the latter parts of the games. It can be frustrating to work hard to get a character prepared to face the last thing that killed you, only to die to the very next zone... or it can be fun depending on the person. :D

Berserker talent is FANTASTIC - the stun/pin res is a bonus. The extra damage and attack could scale a bit better with tlvl, but that extra damage is a great boost with the huge multipliers your attack talents give.

Berserker talent is fantastic - for berserkers. Wyrmics really wish they had some other form of stun resist - *any* other form of stun resistance. That armor/defense penalty leaves a mark when you're trying to run a defensive fighter.
