fumblefingers for posessors

#1 Post by Atarlost »

Posessors, since they still seem to have their mana shafted, don't benefit much from magic skills, but I'v got a nice selection of them available from fumblefingers right now.

Mindcraft
Magic Device
Thaumaturgy
Summoning

Are any of these besides magic device remotely useful on the mana supply of a posessor?

Please reply quickly since I can't save the game and go back to it later because it's in the skill selection screen.

I would choose Magic Device, cause it's not mana based

Mindcraft would be great too, but only for "precognition", you will never have sufficent mana for the other powers (the max SP I ever had with a possessor was 21).

Sumoning can be useful if you don't pick a corpse able to summon.

Thaumaturgy cost too much mana

has to be mindcraft, whose mana cost for spells is fixed. Vision for 1 mana? yes please!

in my experience, thaumaturgy lowers spell points if you have gloves on. big mistake when I chose it as a mindcrafter, who dont give a hoot about gloves, books, or light for that matter. Pulverize is a good dazing spell that can turn into a ball. Choose it if you have a high wizdom. If you do choose mindcrafting just make sure you will be prepared for amnesia or stunning. but since i remember posessors have little sp, so just go with mag device.

Well, I went with mindcraft, but it's a moot point because the poor guy was mobbed by hippogriffs in Mirkwood and died. Nothing should have that many HPs, come in groups, and fly or pass walls. I fired 8 or 9 charges worth of stinking clouds and it didn't make a dent in them. I also was posessing something with an electric aura and carying more than a doze cure crits, so I would have expected them to die fast enough for me to break out on one side. They seem to be hideously overpowered for something that comes in groups at that depth.

In making flying monsters pass trees the balance inherited from V was lost, particularly in the deeper levels of the downs, where there are no mountians, and in the old forest and mirkwood, was lost. Combined with the Keldon Jones group AI flight can become hideously overpowered.

Hippogryphs do not come in groups - are you sure it wasn't a quest monster?

Stinking cloud is not really *THAT* effective against non-low-level- breeders IMHO

Huh? V doesn't have trees.

Yes, unless baby multihued dragons and hippogriffs are actually the same monster.

Poison+electric aura+hitting them with Dethanc and 30something weaponmastery should be that effective.

V desn't have fliers either, since there's nothing to fly over. Flight, particularly now that it allows monster to pass trees, gives monsters that were not originally intended to pass through walls the ability to pass through some (or in the case of Mirkwood and the old forest all) walls. This is bad for balance, particularly when combined with the Keldon Jones AI.

Continuing in this off-topic vein: has anyone tried the rebel thunderlord quest now that they can pass trees? Has anyone completed it? I know that the level of the quest has been upped to take account of the increased difficulty, but I don't know that I've had a character yet who could survive it now. (Stone prison might work, but that's not available to many characters.)

Stone prison can be found in wands.

Basically, you need fire immunity. With that, it's a piece of cake.

And a vampiric weapon. Poison and bleeding help to to keep them from coming back after they blink away.
