Massive slowdown

#1 Post by Donblas »

Hello,

I recently installed beta 13, which worked well for a while, but after a couple of sessions any time I launch the game I get massive slowdown on launch. The window takes over a minute to load, menus take minutes to fully appear, and the process is maxing CPU. I downloaded beta 15 and removed the settings files from beta13 and I get the same issue still. No display drivers have changed since the initial install when everything worked fine. Not sure what to investigate next.

Any ideas from anyone, three clean download and install attempts and the game is still unplayable.

Well, there's beta15b now, you could try that.

And beta15 is generally faster too.

Try and run it with GDB... you will get more information and so on.

The slowdown is with 15b, not 15, sorry.

How would I go about using gdb when this is in a windows environment?

I am having the slowdown as well. The game seems to play fine until I start exploring the overworld, then there are spikes of slowness pretty much anywhere.

Example:
Started a new game, started exploring first level of Trollshaws. Everything is working perfect and smooth. I exit to the overworld and return, there is very noticeable slowdown happening periodically.

Runescrye: You may get slowdown when switching zones due to the game saving. Does the slowdown continue after the save bar fills?

Yeah, I have set the game the game to not save in the background as well and the slowdown still occurs.
I've tried disabling some of the graphics options and logging out, fiddling with the autosave options. Happens regardless.

And if you save & reload, does it go away or is it permanent ?

Permanent. Tried exiting the game and reloading.

Making a new character makes the slowdown stop until the first time I visit the overworld with that character, then they occur regulary again.

A driver update has done the trick for me for now, at least. Doesn't make sense though as I haven't changed that in a long time, and it used to work fine ... I'll post back if I learn more.

Tried updating display drivers, doesn't make a difference.

I tried the infinite dungeon, and the game is very, very laggy for me in there, more-so than in the normal module game. Hrm..
