Easier map scrolling

#1 Post by Grey »

I like playing with just the mouse most of the time, so having to lean over to the keyboard to map scroll seems like quite a nuisance. Especially annoying when trying to line up ray spells just right... I can think of two easy ways to implement easier map scrolling:

- Mouse scroll wheel. This works well since the screen is already wide, so scrolling is usually done vertically.

- Click & drag. This is something I find myself trying to do nataurally, and then I get up walking into a wall and getting smashed up by a troll... However if click & drag is implemented then you'd need to tweak the interface to detect mouse holding time, and only perform click actions on key release of short clicks, whilst performing a map scroll if the click is held.

For keyboard users we could add PageUp/Down for a little easier map scrolling too. PageUp/Down for menu scrolling would be nice too.

Shift+drag works fine with the mouse

Requires using the keyboard and mouse at the same time - annoying!

yeah, just saying that it is pretty normal to use the mouse and keyboard (and makes the game easier to play imo) as talents are easier to use on the keyboard (one press instead of 2)

Right-clicking on targets to activate talents is far more fun! Though with certain targeting a couple of clicks is necessary...

From the other side of the fence:

I would be great if the map could be easier scrollable without any use of the mouse. The current way to do it - to active "look", and moving the targeting cursor to the edge of the play-field with shift+direction keys - is quite uncomfy.

How about using ctrl+direction keys to scroll the play-field when in "look"-mode, possibly keeping the targeting cursor centered?

tiger_eye thought this to be a good idea.

Cheers! And thanks!

It would make most sense for shift+direction to move the map perspective, as that would tie in with how the mouse works.

Make the movement keys switch to map-scrolling mode when caps lock is on. Put some big semi-transparent text in the middle of the screen that says CAPS LOCK ON; MAP-SCROLLING MODE ENGAGED so we don't have a million forum posts saying the game is broken.

Having satellite internet is a lot like relying on the processes described in those RFC's for your internet. Except, instead of needing to worry about statues interrupting your connection, this time you worry about the weather. I have satellite internet. Fun, no?

Just a thought, but why use caps-lock if SCROLL-lock is available?
