Do escorts breath?

Do escorts breath?
I was escorting one in the Trollshaws, and we ran across a big ambush near the water. During the course of the fight, I had to step out of the water several times because I was getting low on air. The escort stayed in the whole time. I was afraid was going to die for lack of air, but no such thing happened. Do they breath, and if not, is that on purpose?

Re: Do escorts breath?
If they did, then in some cases escorts in the Trollshaws would be drastically more difficult/impossible at times.

I can't say for sure how long he was in there, but it seemed longer than it should have been.darkgod wrote:Na he should have drowned .. hum
Re: Do escorts breath?
With skeletons I tend to lure Bill on water to see if he will drown or not. He doesn't, his HPs remain at max while in the water. Drowning probably doesn't work for NPCs anymore...
Re: Do escorts breath?
Drowning doesn't consume HP. It consumes "Air", which displays in a separate resource line as "97 / 100" or whatever. If it reaches (drops below?) 0, you die.
Re: Do escorts breath?
Bill used to drown. In earlier versions, my character would get to a large body of water and see his stuff lying there. I think DG changed it so he cant spawn in water, but maybe he took the breath feature away also for enemies.PowerWyrm wrote:With skeletons I tend to lure Bill on water to see if he will drown or not. Re: Do escorts breath?
Is there such feature for NPCs? Since it's not displayed in the tooltips, one cannot tell if NPCs drown or not...greycat wrote:Drowning doesn't consume HP. It consumes "Air", which displays in a separate resource line as "97 / 100" or whatever. If it reaches (drops below?) 0, you die.
Re: Do escorts breath?
There WAS such a feature. Best way to test this would going back in the Trallshaws at a higher level and have some NPC hack away on your HP while you wait for them to die... or something similar...PowerWyrm wrote:Is there such feature for NPCs? Re: Do escorts breath?
This is an idea which probably doesn't deserve its own thread so...shouldn't your Max Air be based on Con?
Everyone being able to hold their breath for the same amount of time no matter how fit/healthy they are doesn't make too much sense.

I would say it should scale with willpower instead.
Hmm, and swimming should also drain stamina, and stop you moving if your stamina is too low. Just to make life harder :)

Re: Do escorts breath?
Willpower MIGHT be relevant too but....I feel Con is more appropriate. Could always use both though!Grey wrote:I would say it should scale with willpower instead.
Having a counter that instakills you when it goes <0 is already hard enough I thinkHmm, and swimming should also drain stamina, and stop you moving if your stamina is too low. Just to make life harder

Re: Do escorts breath?
I don't know of any real world effect that lets you old your breath longer due to general health. On the other hand it's well known that you can train yourself to hold your breath by force of will.Zonk wrote:Willpower MIGHT be relevant too but....I feel Con is more appropriate. Bah, pussy ;) Maybe just for the harder modes?Having a counter that instakills you when it goes <0 is already hard enough I think :DHmm, and swimming should also drain stamina, and stop you moving if your stamina is too low. Just to make life harder :)
Re: Do escorts breath?
Really? I'm fairly sure a generally athletic person can hold their breath for longer than a sickly oneGrey wrote: I don't know of any real world effect that lets you old your breath longer due to general health.

Willpower might be somewhat relevant, but we're not talking about being able to resist the temptation to inhale when you shouldn't(say, poison gas), but HOW long your body can resist without air.
Sure, you can slow down your metabolism or whatever with willpower/meditation, but Willpower by itself isn't going to create new oxygen into your lungs...or extract it from water(ok, maybe if you were a Wylder with some kind of fish-related power
