Belt swapping

Exchanging one slotted belt (of the mystic) with another slotted belt (of defence) caused all belt held items to be destroyed.
No Healing potions, Mana potions, scrolls of shielding, and controlled phase door scrolls were in my inventory, belt, or on the floor after swapping the belts. I thought that either there would be a message telling me that held items would be destroyed, or not allow belts holding items to be swapped. Now I need to find some potions PDQ.

Slotted belts are supposed to not being taken off until emptied, afaik, but it seems that's not working.
