Gold, selling items, something odd, and etc.
Can a rogue use a bow? If so, how? Also, the text for rogue mentions stealing, but I haven't figured out how to steal yet. Is it possible?
Is it possible to get the correct price you that would get when you sell an item at a store listed in the price column in your inventory list. There is an a price, but it's not what I am getting. For instance, I sold a iron battleaxe (8.5-12.75 power, 1 apr). In my inventory, the price list was 5, but when I sold it I got .5 gold for it. It would be nice if my inventory listed .5 for the amount I would get instead of 5 they sell it for in the story. Which brings me to another factor in the store, they buy it for .5 and sell it for 5? That's a 1000% mark-up. Is it possible to get a little more gold for the items sold to the stores? I have yet to get enough gold to even clothe myself, and I don't find much int he way of what I can where a rogue. I usually end up buying identity scrolls, mana poitions, and/or lesser healing potions with the 10 gold I get on start up. After three levels of the troll shaws, I can up with 12.## if I am lucky.
Also, I am not sure if this is a bug or not, but I got an odd thing on level 2 (MAYBE level 3, but I am pretty sure it was 2) of the troll shaws. It happened only once that I know. I enter a passage of trees that led to a small stone building with a stone entrance (I didn't get close enough to find out what it was). Outside of it was a mummy looking creature that was level 9 . It did 80 damage in one hit. I was only level 2 or 3 max (I haven't gotten passed 3 yet). I am not sure but it seemed a little early for that special event to be happening because it would be hard for someone on level 2 or 3 of the trollshaws to handle it.
Last thing, I think getting the escort duty on level 2 or 3 of the trollshaws might be too early. Maybe on level 4 or 5?
Other than that, I have enjoyed it so far--even though I have yet to get very far.

Hi Hawk,
You can learn archery a little later in the game, for a small fee.
The sale price of an item will always be 1/10 of the purchase price. e.g. if something is listed as worth 13 gold, then you will get 1.3 gold for selling it. Gold is not really too hard to come by -- there is plenty of loot to sell -- although the shop interface is a little slow at the moment, so selling stuff can be a bit painful. But this should change
As you get more experience, you won't need healing potions so much (although they're still good to have -- and I recommend buying scrolls of phase door too!).
The thing you saw in the Trollshaws was a vault. Perhaps the mummy-looking creature was a skeleton mage? Vaults have higher-level monsters in them, but for most vaults you have to go through a door first. It is a little nasty, I admit. Your best course of action is to immediately use a scroll of phase door. This will get you out of there, and the monster won't know where you've gone, so it won't chase you.
Escort quests are random. Don't feel too bad if you don't complete them all. It's not uncommon to have trouble, even at higher levels.

Ok. Thanks. Also it's Hawk, not Hank.

Fixed! (sorry!)Hawk wrote:Ok. Thanks. Also it's Hawk, not Hank.
Err, let's try that again.Wait... what? Then I'm doing something very wrong!
As you get better at the game, you won't need healing potions so much in the early stages.
(At least, I generally find more potions of lesser healing than I use..)

Are artifacts selling for 10x the list price? I saw a ring of whatever on sale for 50 gold, but the program told me I didn't have enough even though I had loads more than 50 (but quite a bit less than 500).

Sounds like you're in beta 12, where you always saw the first two digits of the price only.
In beta 13, if the price isn't 2 digits, it comes through blank instead. Which is actually worse. You have no idea whether that ring you want is just 1-2 more gp than you have, or 50 more gp. No idea at all.

Re: Gold, selling items, something odd, and etc.
The price thing with only 2 digits is fixed in beta 14. As for beta 13 (no more potions in 14): I've found more than double the amount I actually used. Actually had them sold to lighten the pack...
Might be that I play *very* carefully though... I usually don't dive directly down to Bill, but go between levels 2-3 a bit to prepare for him.

In beta 13, I never even bothered taking out Bill. I'd go to level 5 just to check for an escort quest, and if there wasn't one, I'd just leave. (Unless I wanted his tree trunk for a golem or the like. Not that I played many Alchemists.)
In beta 14, you definitely want to take out Bill, because it gives you about 3 and a half experience levels. But he's been... altered a bit. He has some talents now....

True - the Trunk was just too cheap to sell for gold...
But I've been playing SVN for some time now, so the random artifacts and huge xp gain made it worthwhile.

I always take on Bill and the shade. I consider it test of the worthiness of the character I've started. And as a bonus, the first time I played b14 he dropped Frost Treads
