What does luck affect?
I noticed that hobbits get a bonus to luck. What does luck affect?

Luck > 50 increases attack, defense, saves, critical chances, the chance of staying hidden (with unseen actions), it decreases the spell friendly fire rate, and it affects some encounters.
Re: What does luck affect?
Shouldn't also affect the odds to find better objects (both in terms of item level and ego type), and artifacts?

Re: What does luck affect?
No because obejcts are reated at level generation, which means it would be too easy to switch ona "luck" set before entering a level and then reverteing to your normal items

And why wouldn't this be a valid strategy?

I guess that if you really wanted hobbit's luck to affect item generation, it could be arranged that occasionally when identifying a non-ego item while lucky it would be improved to become an ego item.

I really don't like that Gwai. The item is already generated, and by researching the item you add a flag just because you were lucky? It doesn't make sense at all that luck would completely change what an object is.

Re: What does luck affect?
You're thinking too much of mechanics and not enough of the way it would be for the player.
Josh the hobbit assassin doesn't know the item was already generated by some game he's part of. He finds a dagger "Aaah, what is this one? I could really use a sweet knife that does some damage." The runes carved around the tip made him hopeful, but really he didn't have a clue. Then he remembered something ... "I do have that scroll that guy in the shop sold me. He said it would help me understand whatever I was holding at the time" Hopefully he held the dagger in his left hand and then recited the magic words. As he opened his eyes, suddenly he was sure that this dagger would burn anyone he hit with it. Excited, he took it in his left hand and rushed out to find someone to test it out on.

Increasing the chance of an ego on ID though is no different then increasing the chance on gen.
Instead of swapping gear before changing levels players will just swap gear before casting ID, if anything it makes it even easier to cheese.

Re: What does luck affect?
Everyone starts with 50 luck, a hobbit with 55, and there are a few artifacts that increase or decrease luck. I forgot to add that the effects are reversed if Luck is lower than 50.Mithril wrote:>50? With spell friendly fire rate I mean the chance of damaging yourself with an own spell; without Spell Shaping the chance is 100%, for a hobbit mage "only" 99%.
Everyone starts with the same number of escort quests at the moment, only the zones and levels are selected at random from a list of possible locations. Luck only affects random encounters on the wilderness map.
