I for one am not too happy about that requirement... Puts a limit on what can be done!

Using some of benli's advice, I got one going: heavy str + wil, some con, points in dominate, slash, unnatural body, gloom, weakness, preternatural senses, rampage, and heavy armor for better protection. I avoided Bill, going to trollshaws 4, then onto the forest since I kept getting one-hit by skeleton warriors in amon sul.

Now, of course, he's seems to be permanently stuck in a spider web :x

I think the best classes in roguelikes are the ones where you know exactly what is going to happen before you make the move. That's one reason archmages are so powerful. Cursed is a lot more random so you can be pretty tough and still die from bad luck. The lack of a consistent stun also makes it very hard to deal with OOD foes (like Bill the Troll).

I'll cheat my way to the late game and play around when I get a chance. I probably should finish off Doomed first though.

I'm beginning to suspect that early game is just challenging, which is OK with me if that's the case. I'm unsure about mid-game which might be a hump to get over and late game needs to be toned down. I can't tell about gloom so I might play with that a bit.

I've been playing (and enjoying) the cursed class over the last couple of days.

I think the major obstacle is that primarily they are a melee class and do not start the game with much in the way of defensive equipment/skills.

Seconded. They can do easily enough damage, even at the beginning, but boy can they not take hits.
