So I had this idea for a while in my mind, now I made it!

I prefer 2 (hey, I like washed out colors) but I kinda fear with the problems I already have displaying the basics of the particle engine that having something like a background game running at full speed would severely lag my startup.

Erm, I like the menu restyling, but I'd prefer some more static background, not a running game movie; something like a picture of a middle-earth view, maybe one suggesting darkness is approaching again. It would be even better if it was slightly animated (wind blowing through trees, dust in the air, wandering clouds...), but I know it would be hard to obtain one.

The movie going in the background feels too frantic and too "arcade" IMO :)

I like the washed out background and think a movie of game play is good. Gives new players some idea of what they're getting into.

It's not a movie dump, it's a realtime module played by an AI :)

Ahh, neat! That gives me an idea... maybe we could have some AI challenges where people submit AI code and their characters are tested in-game. This could help improve the AI in-game for the higher difficulty levels since NPCs would start using player tactics.

I think there's something slightly cooler about the black and white version in option 2. Needs to be a bit slower though.

Also, would be nice to see groups of monsters facing each other off. Old-style cold drakes vs fire drakes for instance :P

Digging 2. I might also suggest an alternative version that essentially does about what Triangle Wizard does---seeing as how visual spell effects are rather abundant in ToME4 as well.

A random "arena" of sorts with various possible player incarnations flinging nearly every spell in the game at each other in a battle royale---pretty much a colorful lightshow of destruction the likes of which I'd imagine Wizards/Sorcerers endlessly battling in Valhalla or some such...

I really like number 2, but slowed way down so you can actually understand what is happening. I'm thinking like 3 moves per second ballpark.
