Throwing Knives

#1 Post by mirrizin »

So, I've been trying out shadow blades lately, and noticed something.

Shadow Blades have absolutely now way to hit things at range. They also can't take hits worth crap. This makes them very tricky to play, especially in zones with a lot of open space.

Would it be too much to ask to add a class skill or something for using daggers as ranged weapons?

Rogues suffer the exact same problem put shadowblades have it a bit easier overall due to their extra talent trees. You can gain the ability to shoot however in the game but I understand that there is not an easy/realistic way that the ability to shoot with the current launchers is going to help much.

If you have any ideas for talent trees or items please share.

I have also been thinking about a 'thrown weapons' talent tree that would let you throw knives, hand axes, maces and potions to deal damage. Maybe something like:

Thrown Weapons
Dexterity based

Thrown Damage
Increases the damage that thrown weapons and items deal. Having this talent grants the ability to throw weapons and items. Range is based on strength and base range maybe 5? 0/5

Strong-arm Tosser
Increases the range that thrown weapons and items can travel. Range increases with strength. 0/5

Sharp-eyed Thrower
Increases your ability to-hit and critical chance of thrown weapons and items. Ability to hit and critical chance both increase with cunning

Quick-wristed Slinger
Increases your rate of throwing items. Base speed maybe 1.25 (the slowest I think currently) and reduce it by .05 per talent point?

All these are clearly passive except the first one granting the hotkey action of "Throw Item". Thoughts?

Looks like a good start to me. And adding points to it would presumably take points from something else, so it's not too unbalancing.

I haven't actually experimented with it (because my rogues and shadow blades don't tend to do so well) but the last rogue I played I planned to try out a sling on weapon switch. Their damage scales off dexterity and cunning so I think they'd be well suited to both the rogue classes.
