I know some ideas are being batted around for Bree-men (or perhaps settled upon), which I think is probably a good idea, but something else that should probably be adjusted is the dwarf starting xp penalty. They're not far off skeletons as the best starting race for a variety of classes, and very close to the new elven race, yet skeletons have 2.0 xp mod, elves have either a 1.3 or a 1.35 modified (depending on if I read it wrong), and dwaves have a 1.1 xp modifier. For all the great stat bonuses dwarves get 1.1 seems quite low and that's part of why Bree-men seemed underpowered. Objectively, dwarves are a slightly weaker starting option than the elven races, but not by a ton.
TL:DR - I'd suggest shifting dwarves to having a 1.25 starting xp penalty.

As far as I can tell Nandor are 1.05. (At least, the wiki claims this).Elliott wrote:I know some ideas are being batted around for Bree-men (or perhaps settled upon), which I think is probably a good idea, but something else that should probably be adjusted is the dwarf starting xp penalty. Actually, 1.05 is the exp modifier for the generic Elf race, but both Nandor and Noldor override it with 1.3.
Since Nandor and Noldor get an overall stat bonus of 5, while dwarves 6, I agree with Elliott, they should be shifted to something like 1.35.
General formula would be:
1 + 0.05 * (stat_bonus + 1)

Re: Too little xp penalty - dwarves
I don't think it's based off stat bonuses. The elven racials, especially Grace of the Eldar, are very nice abilities.
The only thing that's really *great* about the dwarven racial is that it's based off Con, a stat everyone will want to dump some points into sooner or later.
The undead racials are the best in the game, hence the 2.0 xp penalty.
Anyway, I can see raising the dwarven xp penalty up a bit but not 1.35 (really not higher then 1.2 in my opinion.)
While we're at it though, how about giving dwarves some infravision? Bump the xp up to 1.2 or 1.25 and let them see in the dark

Re: Too little xp penalty - dwarves
Yeah, the racials are really why I felt the elves are stronger than the dwarves. The dwarven racial is useful and all, but imo, its the weakest of the "activateable ability" racials and the gap, imo, is worth more than 2 starting stat points (The Noldor special is absolutely amazing for low to mid level characters and is still valuable at higher levels. Killing Bill with a low level archer almost requires it) which is why I put them below elves overall. I wasn't sure if the 1.05 and 1.30 were entirely separate or if they were added together when you added the specific sub-race. If elves are 1.30, then 1.20 or 1.25 seems reasonable for dwarves.
