Escort Quests are WORTH IT.

Despite the nuances (Hello? the portal is 2 spaces away from you! Go in it instead of trying to go attack that enemy all the way over there!) the rewards of the escort quests are quite worth it.

On my mage, I rescued a repented thief and got a level in heightened senses, which is incredibly useful to just about anyone. Then I rescued a loremaster and got water jet, a spell under the category "Other." It's pretty much a secondary freeze - it stuns for 4 turns! ZOMG FREE STUN SPELL!

On another note, I am definitely going to try using vision to find the portal and just phase door-ing the idiot into it.

...I wonder if you can summon control the person you need to escort. O.o

Also, I think it should be added into the AI that, if the portal they need to get to is closer to them than the enemy, they'll ignore the enemy and just keep heading toward the portal.

Agreed on that last point. I was doing one on Trollshaws(4) and the portal was in sight but there was a rapidly multiplying set of green worm packs in pursuit. They were far enough back that he wasn't turning around for them so I couldn't go back and whittle them down for fear of losing him to something ahead. So about two spaces from the portal, a wolf comes up and he goes after it. The wolf dies in like one round, but that one round was long enough for the worms to come into his sight. The portal is beckoning no more than 2 spaces away, but instead he decides that since there are now a good 7-8 worm masses its finally time to go charge them in an open field. Had he charged when there was just 1, it would have been fine. Was like he was trying to create a situation that I couldn't save him from.

Heh, yeah. Also, maybe if there are more than say, 4 monsters in view, they'll run away from the enemy. Makes sense since they're wounded, and all, and aren't suicidal? :P

Thanks to that water jet spell, though, I was able to stun lock the boss of the ancient elven dungeon until he died.
I can also kill pretty much any normal enemy by going freeze > Fireball > Lightning > Water Jet > Fireball > Lightning > Freeze > Fireball > Lightning. And then level 5 Flameshock for good measure.

...Are there going to be any rescue the princess quests like in Tome 2? xD

They are pretty fun.

Traps though are really annoying :( Currently my character is standing on a trap in level 1 of Amon Sul and the escort is just waiting for me to move so he can commit suicide.

To add insult to injury the portal is eight tiles away and visible.

Just had the same problem with a poisoned vine. Fortunately, the dude had 40hp left.

Though having completed the quest, I chose "imbue item," and don't see any such power on my abilities page. I could well be missing something obvious (wouldn't be the first time, ;) ) but here's the code:

Try the "m" key. It should show up there.

Yeah, mine did not have enough hit points left to survive. After a few minutes of pondering (and hitting five thinking maybe I could get the dude to heal) I gave up on it.

As to your problem, did you check the hotkeys list? Under 'm'? You won't be able to improve the talent unless you have the whole tree so it shouldn't show up under 'G'. But so far every lone talent I've learned shows up under 'm'.

If he is not right next to the trap you can switch place sideways with him to make it avoid it

In the instance I encountered dig (or a digging tool) would have let me make a clear path for him.

So what dungeons are you all receiving the quests in? I ask because I haven't seen one escort quest yet!

I've seen them in Trollshaws, Old Forest, and Amon Sul.

I encountered 0 quests though on my ghoul so maybe undead can't get them? Maybe it was just bad luck on that character...

Or maybe it's luck based? I've been playing a lot of hobbits lately.

I've seen a couple in Tol Falas as well.

My mage is having much more luck completing them, although it was inevitable in a way that I'd get the Arkenstone of Thrain immediately after recieving heightened senses from a thief, rendering it useless...

Got a couple in Carn Dum. One wasn't so bad, but one was a deathtrap.

Haven't seen any in Sandworm Hole or the Maze yet. I'm hoping they simply don't spawn in either of those, as I think they'd be pretty much impossible given the nature of those dungeons.
