Plagues, Curses, and Corruptions. Oh my!! (Class Idea)

Re: Plagues, Curses, and Corruptions. Oh my!! (Class Idea)
About Dual-wielding: I tried to make a skeleton rogue that would focus on str and dex, ditching cun completely, and use dual swords instead of daggers. Didn't work because I couldn't use swords in the off-hand. I could use a sword and a dagger, but since daggers didn't use str thanks to lethality, it just wouldn't work.
I hope there will be a class to do that, eventually.
Also, I'm worried these classes will never make it past tol falas. Undead are immune to all this dark/poison/blight damage, right?

@DG - I like that tree. Not super fond of the name of the talent tree itself though. Ritual to me implies something that takes some time to perform. Blighted Rituals might be a cool advanced tree for Blight Mages though. Fill it with spells that take multiple turns to cast but have really cool effects, like a sustained Blight Storm (Ice Storm but for Blight Mages) that empowers the caster and damages those around him. Call it Aura of Desecration maybe?
All of these effects are very vampiric in nature. Again Blighted Rituals doesn't really reflect that.
Sanguisuge is a synonym that might work well. Corrupted Parasitism is another idea.
Digging around for synonyms for Vim doesn't turn out so well. I tried Prana (life force, chi, etc.) and none of them sound evil enough.
Maybe Vim Corruption, Vim Manipulation, Vim Parasitism. Energy Parasitism? Energy Vampirism?
Anyways just some alternate ideas. Of those I mentioned I like Sanguisuge the best but it's probably to obscure for most people.
@Zaive - I really only see that being a big issue for Blight Mages. I can see Reavers having some trouble too, especially if they're heavily invested in diseases or blight damage, but Nercomancers and Demonologists should be fine.

Re: Plagues, Curses, and Corruptions. Oh my!! (Class Idea)
why not just use corruption as the fuel? then if you get to 100 (or whatever) corruption, you gain a random corruption (not always good, not always bad, mostly a bit of both) and the corruption counter resets to 0. Then make rare potions of purification that can remove an amount of corruption.
If your body gets corrupted enough (say 5 corruptions) there is a chance each time your corruption lvl goes up that you are morphed into a being of chaos where you have a high lvl of damage output and health, but you have a timed life (only purification can save you). Then make a talent that increases the # of corruptions you can have before you have a chance to morph.

Zaive: na I tried real hardto not make much immunities, so even against undead it's fine. The only rare cases of immunnities are for elementals and drakes
Shoob: that's a totally different class IMO, although I had envsioned such a "random class" too
Edge: Hum could work I suppose

Re: Plagues, Curses, and Corruptions. Oh my!! (Class Idea)
I had another idea for 'Blighted Rituals' last night after posting this.
Blighted Rituals could be another generic tree full of utility spells. Maybe just Blight Mages start off with it.
Here's some examples of what I'm thinking.
Blight Portal - Pretty much a straight rip off of the WoW Warlock ability. You mark an area with Blight and can later teleport back to it.
Cess Pool - Low damage (blight or acid), long duration AoE. While standing in the Cess Pool your spellpower is increased by X (note that you're not immune to the damage by default).
Corrupted Thoughts - Short duration telepathy (5-10 turns). Or another way of looking at it is a long duration sense that can't detect traps or objects.
???? -
*actually if we give these more generic names they'd work for necromancers too. Dark Portal instead of Blight Portal for instance.*

Re: Plagues, Curses, and Corruptions. Oh my!! (Class Idea)
Is there a list of proposed corruptions? If not, I have some ideas in one category:
Body modifications:
Warg's Muzzle: You are able to smell monsters nearby and you can bite for CON/2 additional blight damage when fighting hand to hand. Unfortunately the awkward shape gives you a 30% chance of spilling a potion rather than drinking it.
Balrog's Horn: +3 STR and a CL/2% chance of causing monsters to flee from you in terror. But you can only wear wizard's hats.
Troll Skin: +4 CON and -2 DEX. +5 to armor but most (all?) armors no longer fit over your deformed body.
Rotting Flesh: -3 CON and no natural HP regeneration. But you get free access to the Plague tree.
Draconic Talons: +2 DEX and you sweep your (foot) claws in an arc in front of you for STR/3 puncturing damage. A critical hit causes bleeding. But you cannot wear any kind of boots.
Blighted Eyes: You see DEX/2 squares around you in complete darkness but your vision range decreases with the brightness of light nearby (you *can* wear a light source, but its not recommended
). 75% blindness resistance. But you are susceptible to light damage.

Those are like the T2 corruptions rights ?
We are talking about the corruption talents (maybe they need an other name ?)
But I like your ides could you start a tread about corruptions as mutations ?

My ideas were as a response to this from Shoob above:

Re: Plagues, Curses, and Corruptions. Oh my!! (Class Idea)
Aha!! I was like, hmm, these talents only scale with stats?!?
I like blighted eyes as a talent too though. Heightened Senses corrupter style.
Could have the distance, blindness resistance, and light sensitivity all scale off talent level.
I have another idea for an effect for that tree I proposed in my last post but I don't know how to do it in game terms since we have no corpse system.
The idea is a in-combat heal you have to be near a slain enemy to use.
Sacrifice - Melee/Personal range spell you cast near a spot an enemy was slain. Gain back X health (or X% of enemies health preferably but may be even harder to do).

Re: Plagues, Curses, and Corruptions. Oh my!! (Class Idea)
Not sure what to call it but Reavers probably need some unique combat techniques.
Here's some effect ideas.
Acidic Blood - Your acidic blood reduces the AP of any melee weapon that hits you by X. At level 3 your blood splatters onto the attacker causing the additional two effects; reduces armor by X and inflicts X acid damage over Y turns. (Passive sunder).
Rend - Double weapon attack that causes the target to bleed for X% of damage caused for Y turns.
I have a few other ideas but gotta go. I'll post them later.

Here's an example of what I was thinking with a ramped up spellpower bonus for Reavers. Something like this would be in place of the % of stat spell power bonuses we've seen so far for other hybrids.
Bloodlust (Passive) - You gain tlevel bonus Spell Power every time you inflict damage on an actor. Every turn you lose tlevel*2 of your bonus Spell Power. (In other words. The player starts off with 0 bonus spell power. If he hits an enemy with each of his weapons he gains 10 bonus spell power (at rank five) but he then loses 10 bonus spell power. The next turn if he doesn't do any damage he stays at his natural spell power, because the talent only subtracts it's own sp every turn. The way this really ramps up is with disease spreading and aoe damage. If you're dealing disease damage just to yourself and one enemy every turn and also hitting it with both weapons you're gaining a net 10 bonus spellpower every turn.)
Here's a Curse/Hex idea from the traps thread.
Burning Curse - Whenever a resource is used the actor takes damage equal to the amount spent. Burning Curse lasts until X damage is inflicted.

Re: Plagues, Curses, and Corruptions. Oh my!! (Class Idea)
just a thought, and off topic, but maybe rogues could start out with a point in dual wielding (or something else) instead of that point in lethality?Zaive wrote:About Dual-wielding: I tried to make a skeleton rogue that would focus on str and dex, ditching cun completely, and use dual swords instead of daggers. I hope there will be a class to do that, eventually.
it would open up some more flexible rogue builds...

Re: Plagues, Curses, and Corruptions. Oh my!! (Class Idea)

I'm making up some trees from the collected thoughts here, but please continue. I need some solid trees because one of the end boss will be a corrupter, probably half-reaver/half-bloodmage (the other one is half-mage/half-anorithil) so I need talents before I can release beta10 with all the endgame implemented
