Possession !!

Re: Possession !!
Baker, I'm presuming that as one invested more points into Attack! one would get longer times that one could make the living creature attack. I would totally invest points in a skill that would make me able to have a good chance at making BigHenchman attack Boss. (Presuming Bosses would be pretty good at resisting this.) Similarly, a relatively HP weak class would get a lot of value out of making a slow but hard-hitting monster attack even a wall. Particularly nice considering that stuns are not nearly as easy to get for non-fighter classes.
Re: Possession !!
Another possible talent tree?
*Mental Defense
-Resist Domination: Passive power, makes you immune from domination by monsters of rank WIL/3*level or less. At level 4, a 30% chance to reverse the flow (so you dominate the dominator)
-Psionic Blur: Activated power. Makes it more difficult for creatures with minds to attack. Increases defense by WIL/5+2*level. At level 3 a failed attack has a 15% chance to stun the opponent due to confusion as to why the attack missed
-Telekinetic Breeze: Continuous power (XXX mental points) Magic and breath attacks have a WIL*talent level percent chance to be blown away from the mindcrafter. At level 2 it also has a chance to deflect missiles. At level 5 pinning missiles always fail to pin even if damage is taken.
-Misposition: Activated power. Intelligent monsters have a chance to think you are somewhere else, so will attack at your false image (note that area effects can still hit you even if mistargeted). Your apparent position is [level] spaces away. At level 4 the apparent location flickers, which makes the enemy think you are failing to keep invisible there.

Re: Possession !!
Cool ideas...
Dumbfound- target creature stunned for x turns or until takes damage. (basically gives one free hit). I'd see this as the precurser for Move. Useful offensively and also defensively to plug up a corridor.
Mindfog- Target Creature x% slower, decreased accuracy, decreased defense, decreased crit chance. Maybe at higher levels becomes area/radius effect.
Rabid- Target creature becomes target of other enemies (if they are closer to target creature than they are to you). This would be a precursor to a Charm, since target is not co-aligned with player and not under his control.
Anticipate: Read the intentions of a target. An expensive sustained ability- reduces accuracy of target creature by large amount, reduces damage. Cooldown when turned off/target dies/leave level.

Re: Possession !!
I'm not highly in favor of "stunlocking" and crowd control spells in general, I think they're borrowing too much from MMORPG gameplay and are kind of boring. Maybe reversing the power would work as well, instead? Make it a kind of "attack me" sign you can put on monsters, for example, with a radius of effect (for ranged enemies) and chance of applying for each monster in range dependent on your skill level. That would take out some of the boring micromanaging of manually making every monster attack a certain square each turn and could still be used to get monsters to attack certain targets, like bosses.Gwai wrote:Baker, I'm presuming that as one invested more points into Attack! one would get longer times that one could make the living creature attack. Re: Possession !!
If you're doing possessors in T4, I think it might be better to make it a temporary rather than permanent thing. They had way too much potential for exploitation in T2.
Re: Possession !!
how about a high multiple results for body switching, with a high level talent to enforce control or better rolls on the result table
Attempt To Posses
Failure,PC Stunned, NPC enraged, aware of PC PC weaknesses/capabilites (dependant on AI)
Failure, NPC enraged aware of PC status
Failure, PC stunned, NP enraged aware of PC location only
Failute, NPC enraged and aware of location
Failure, NPC stunned.
Success, body switch takes place, NPC soul in PC body
Success, Body switch takes place, NPC soul cast out as a spirit
Success, body switch takes place, NPC soul destroyed in contest of wills
Success, body switch takes place, NPC soul in PC body dominated by PC for short duration
Sucesss, body switch takes place, NPC soul in PC body Enslaved by PC permanently
Switching back again should allow the NPC a another saving throw, albeit penalised as they are in an unfamiliar body and greatly penalised if dominated or enslaved. this would allow a high level possessor to hop between bodies and create an army of dominated minions.
The maximum number of controlled mobs can be linked to a talent or stat. An option to attempt to dominate without a body switch could be offered via talent.
Possibly a new resource for possesors "Life force" which is consumed by their abilities and must be replenished by taking a new host, taking a new host gives a substantial boost to life force. inhabiting that host slowly eats away at the life force, forcing a possesor to hop form body to body to keep their blackened soul alive. Your natural body should neither grant nor deplete life force, except by use of abilities or talents.
A talent or ability to flee to your original body should be an option, if it is not inhabited. most spirits displaced into your natural body should die after a time, lacking the means to sustain themselves parasitically.
A talent to spirit walk depleting life force very rapidly should be allowed, giving the PC the ability to move around from his body in near perfect invisibilty and scout and attempt to posses without risking the orginal body possesion attempts in this form should be much harder, as the soul has no physical foundation to rely upon.
A talent or intrinsic ability to on original body death to jump ship and attempt to possess, before life force runs out. PC would be free to continue to possess until it ran out of life force/hosts but would be unable to enjoy a neutral state of no life force loss.
A talent to govern how effective natural attacks/weapons are used, a penalty for untrained, lesser penalties for rank 1,2 normal values at 3 and bonuses at rank 4 and 5
Possessing an undead form could be an option, but would drain life force dramatically faster than a living body, even faster than spirit walking [Edit, and would grant no bonus life force upon possesssion]
Let me know what you think, just tossing some ideas out

Re: Possession !!
Oh some very good ideas, I like the life force thing that forces you to continue switching.
Maybe the possessor can be kinda like a summoner but instead fo summoning he dominates others, crushing their soul and putting part of his own inside their body, which would slowly degrade.
Then with a thought he can swith to any of his dominated army to assume direct control.
Ah yes...

Re: Possession !!
Yes that's very much the vision I had at low levels the possesor would be a rapacious spirit hopping from body to body, tearing away lifeforce and abandoning it when it suited him, leaving lifeless husks in its wake, and at advanced levels the demonic puppet master holding sway over an army of domineered minions, hopping from body to body to taunt and leer at his next victim as the net of his puppets closes around them.darkgod wrote:Oh some very good ideas, I like the life force thing that forces you to continue switching.

The thought gives me another idea, for a separate progression path. one could maintain an army of live drones whilst his sway holds on them and the other path would be a more necromantic one, being that when he abandons his host, leaving it lifeless, it has a chance to become a reanimated zombie under his control. Which will basically wander, with very limited PC control attacking other actors, until destroyed. They would be much less effective, would not have a time limitation, and much lesser maintainance cost by themselves but have the additional drawback of costing a much steeper life force penalty to directly control but on the other hand would have the usual undead immunities and benefits.
