Monster which aren't in LOS still show -Stunned -Poison etc.

I can tell where monsters are by the -Stunned and -Poisoned and so on floating up behind a wall. That can't be desirable behavior.

my gf can certainly tell where I am in the house if I stub my toe or drop a pile of books on my head

To make it fair, I suppose monsters should move towards you if you trigger a trap. Although your way is probably simpler.
