Moving Save Files from computer to computer

#1 Post by mudshark56 »

Is it possible to move save files from one computer to another? I see in the "Save" folder that there have been 2 files added to delete.me: global.svg and test (test is the name I gave my save file).

Would moving one or both of these save files enable me to play on another computer? Both computers are PCs. What is stored in each of these files?

Thanks for your help!

When I moved savefiles I just moved the save file, not global.svg. And when the Tome menu comes up, type "Load savefile" with the appropriate name, in your case "test".

I have no idea what is in the other files, I've never had a reason to look.

In your case, 'test' is your save file. You can move 'test' to a different computer. This is the only file that you need to move to the other computer.

If you have macros, or automatizer settings, then those are in different files. You can either move them to the other computer, or you can redo all your macros and automatizer settings at the other computer.

'global.svg' (or 'user.1000.svg' on my computer) is a list for the menu like this:

Code: Select all

ToME@1Rogue@Nelim, the Hobbit Rogue is alive
ToME@0Priest@Edaymar, the High-Elf Priest(Manwe) is dead

Another option would be to just copy the whole ToME folder back and forth, then you don't need to worry about the relevance of individual files. That's what I do when a character is ready to (a) slap on The Ring and be Mr Bad or (b) trek off to Mt Doom and do the necessaries for a quiet chat with Mr Bauglir in the basement - store a copy, wreck Bag End and go on the rampage, then swop the copy in to be a gentle hobbit once more.

Copying the "folder" relies on having the same OS on both computers. I often move save files from linux -> winxp -> linux -> mac OSX -> etc.

I don't mess with OSX much but every once in a while my wife wants to use my computer instead. My laptop and work computers are all linux and I have one home machine that runs windows for various games and crap.
