How is playing ?

#1 Post by darkgod »

Aside from bugs and unfinished business how do you feel about actual playability, fun and balance of latest RFT?

Any "meta" suggestions ?

I think it is better balanced now than it was before... rogues still feel like they have the short end of the stick though.

meta spells:

- reflection: player gains reflection (or the possibility of rather) probably 100*talent level/7% chance (so only mages can gain 100% reflection naturally)

- redirection: allows you to redirect x amount of spells cast at you during its casting. duration and number of spells (not one per level) redirected increase with level (as does mana cost) (ie you get to choose the target of the spell cast at you... probably should drain some mana and have a short duration.)

- absorption: absorbs spells cast at you

I agree on Rogues, they are tough to start with... later on (around 13th Level) they get easier to play, but they still drop dead really easily!

Also with Lethality in play and the unreliability of Stealth (likely to disappear with out any notice) there is very little reason to invest in Shadowstrike.

Convert: Allows you to convert spells cast at you to either HP or Mana. Different to your definition of absorption.

Store: Store a spell cast at you for later casting (so you don't have to know what the spell is or be able to cast it...). Treat it like a single barrel shotgun, so you have to reload every time! Also like shotguns they can blow up!

I meant meta suggestions about the game balance :)
But thanks the ideas are welcome though :)

(Convert was already planned for Blood Magic :)

So, rogues a tad hard, but did you try unseen actions, it makes stealth able to continue.

What about mages & warriors ?
The dungeons ? monsters ? items ?

I will check out Unseen Actions - not tried it... Hmmm

Mages are good, perhaps a little too easy.

Warriors are also fairly easy, although I must admit to not using them much. Since RFT8 is out soon I will try them!

A thought on traps...

At the moment traps reset once triggered (clever things!) but in real life traps trigger once unless a third party resets them. So consider not resetting traps. This, I will admit will change the play a lot and may not be worth it!

Encumbrance - at the moment I, playing as a Mage, can carry around ridiculous amounts of gear. It ought to be restricted more to make it more difficult to carry lots of things

Also consider a warrior walking around with 5 sets of armour - it is just too bulky. Consider recalculating encumbrance on weight AND size!

I meant meta suggestions about the game balance
hehehe, oh :P

right now it is harder to play melee characters because the dungeons didnt connect, and no diggers (beside mage) made them hard to get up in levels. so with the next rft we should have a better idea.

but right now I find that fighters and berserkers dont tend to worry about damage at first as they are both harder to hit and take less damage than rogues and mages. (really rogues should be harder to hit)... maybe the armor should only give armor and not defense (shields would only give defense). I think that would balance it up some. maybe even some heavier armors would lower your defense... but I think that is taken care of by the str requirement...

but that would be a way to do it too, but you said you didnt want to go there yet... (to make it so you can wear them, but you lose effectivity) (eg with armors you do gain a severe drop to defense depending on weight of the armor (until you get up to the req str). weapons drastically reduce damage, but still better than unarmed fighting, unless you got the skills)... but yeah... I am fine with that not being implemented for a while if at all, though I think that it would make the game more interesting.)

and madmonk
- there are some traps which might be auto-loading though (like the poisonous vine and magic traps).

Encumrurance does take weight and size in account.

But it is not computed yet to a max carrying cacacity. I'll let it taht way until I implement town & stores.

What warriors did you try ? 2H or shield ?

The current traps are mostly elemental ones, they are magic :) And sliding rocks can keep on sliding all day IMO.
But things like dagger traps or others will indeed be fire once deals.

Ok what would you two propose for rogues survivability ?
I had an evasion talent planned for cunning, chance to evade completly an attack, sounds what you imagine ?

Not sure RFT comes tonight I want to finish some things, but at most tomorrow and with a surprise !
The Sandworm Lair ! With a nice twist since T2 days, but I'll let you try it ;)

Given you have talked about unseen action, I want to try that first before coming to an opinion on this. I will try this tonight and let you know.

I just started playing again last night. So far I have only played a mage, and I agree that they are pretty easy so far. I only got to level 5 when the game hung on a level creation error.
