Stat maxing
How does stat maxing work. I've got a few !'s next to my stats. Are their limits to how high a stat can get before you have to use eq to raise 'em, and if so, how are those decided?
Re: Stat maxing
If a stat has a ! next to it, you cannot raise it any further using potions. At that point only equipment (or your god) can raise it.Ithulta wrote:How does stat maxing work. Re: Stat maxing
I am pretty sure stats are maxed without equipment at 28 regardless of anything (race/class/etc)... and with no god too.

Re: Stat maxing
The absolute maximum a statistic can reach is 40, or 18/*** depending on your display mode. There's nothing higher than that, so if you reach that you can stop worrying about the stat entirely.
! indicates that further potions are pointless, yes.
EDIT: 40, not 30, as Shoob points out below. My bad.

Unless you use maximize mode, in which case race and class bonuses increase a stat's maximum value.Shoob wrote:I am pretty sure stats are maxed without equipment at 28 regardless of anything (race/class/etc)... and with no god too.
Re: Stat maxing
Each stat has an internal stat value, which ranges from 3 to 18/100. When you drink potions of statgain, that internal value is what is affected; therefore, once the internal value reaches 18/100, you're done with stat gain. All stat modifiers (including race/class benefits, equipment, god bonuses, etc) are added onto this base value. So for example, if you're creating a new character whose race/class combination gives them +4 to strength, then your apparent min/max values for strength are 7 and 18/140. If you then equip a Ring of Strength (+3), then they'd be 10 and 18/170.
This is different if you're playing with "maximize" mode off. If it's off, then race and class stat modifiers are applied directly to your base stats. So your new character above would still have a min and max of 3 and 18/100. The Ring of Strength would then put the min and max at 6 and 18/130.
Make sense?
