New class idea: Horseman

#1 Post by Yottle »

I am thinking of a combination of RohanKnight, Thunderlord, and Symbiont. The basic idea is that a Horseman has the ability to tame animals and can then wear them. As with a Symbiont, the worn monster can use its native attacks to aid the Horseman. However, the monster also affects the stats of the Horseman.

Generally, the Horseman's speed and strength should increase if he is mounted on a decent steed. This should interact especially well with combat talents like the use of thrusting weapons like lances and spears. One-handed weapons that rely on impact like swords and maces should have positive effects also. Things like daggers and rapiers would not be affected. And of course "an axe is no weapon for a horseman".

The type of animal that can be tamed would depend on talent level. In Middle Earth various characters rode a number of types of creatures: horses, wargs, eagles, and winged horrors.

Can multiple animals be worn?

So riding a horse and having a Mold as well?

So, if I'm riding a horse: I'm faster, stronger, weapon bonus, steed's native attack and various abilities (fly or whatever). Apologies if this is wrong, but I'm seeing this as a Symbiant that gains some advantages while losing the mold's magic skills. I just got a mental image of a symbiant dwarf with a mold sitting on top of his head and riding a warg.

I really do exist.

I would assume that the key to this would be making sure that it takes enough talent points that you can't max out other areas. So you would have to invest in taming, riding, and thrusting weapon combat to take full advantage of lances and spears.

As with a symbiant, there would be one slot to use so only one steed.

I basically don't like the pets/companions path in T2- to me it seems boring and munchkinish. That mostly means summoners and symbiants. So I would not want to see symbiants wearing greater Qs and summoning vast numbers of high level monsters to do their dirty work. I don't have any objection to other uses of symbiosis, but they are mostly useless. (The preceding being strictly my own opinion, of course.)

In any case, instead of getting an infinite source of summoned pets or high level spells, this approach enhances a combat type character.
