Worshiping Melkor
Can you get rid of the penalties to intelligence and wisdom from worshiping Melkor with restore intelligence and wisdom potions? Also, how much in reality does Melkor hate elves? Does piety plummet or just go down a little bit faster?

Re: Worshiping Melkor
no you cannot. It is like an equipped item in that it is permanent (unless you gain or lose enough piety)Can you get rid of the penalties to intelligence and wisdom from worshiping Melkor with restore intelligence and wisdom potions?
(if you want to know a formula(ish) for the stat gain/loss see "invisible" text immediately below)
that is you gain (+x) str,con and (-x) int, wis, where (I think, this is off the top of my head, so forgive me if I am wrong) x=floor(piety/10000) but capped at 3.
I don't think you gain/lose much when you play elves as it is under the "like" side so it is mainly when you kill "elven" stuff (I think)
Oliphant am I, and I never lie.
Re: Worshiping Melkor
Per the detailed spoilers, being an elf increases your rate of piety drain by about 60%. For every 10k piety you gain, you get +1 to STR/CON and -1 to INT/WIS, up to +-3.
Given the abundance of stat boosts in the late game, penalties to INT/WIS are generally not a huge deal. Just chuck on a flipped Amulet of Doom.

So do amulets of doom drain life? That's what the descriptions implies. I suppose that wouldn't be much of a problem in the late games, when you're killing monsters that yield a lot of xp all the time, but that effect's always kinda bothered me. I'm assuming flipping doesn't get rid of it.
Re: Worshiping Melkor
Amulets of Doom have three properties:
* They reduce all primary statistics (STR/INT/WIS/DEX/CON/CHR)
* They cannot be dropped when cursed
* They can re-curse themselves
That's all. No drain-life, though you're right that if they had that property, it wouldn't be removed by flipping them.

Yeah, I just realized that the part about 'draining your abilities' (or whatever it was) probably referred to the stat loss. I asked this in another post, but is it only scrolls that can flip things? Does the spell work?
EDIT:
Never mind. My question was answered.
