I remembered a post off the old forum's and could not remember who had done the post! Cool, I knew someone had done it!Shoob wrote:my lowest I think is around the 8... I think I did get more though (got either 9 or 10)... but that was a while back.
the only problem is that poison and shard kills count as your kill even if you had nothing to do with it.

Re: New Challenge (Insane Level)
I'm liking the rouge idea best at the moment -- though a few quick tries didn't really get going. With a little luck you can start by lifting a !oDex, =oDex or an "oSerpents for a DEX boost to help you get your stealing going.
I'm not getting any EXP for stealing, though (as Wastrel seems to)?!? Oh well, that can be remedied by stealing !oEXP from the Black Market until you get sufficiently high-level to start looking for dungeon towns to steal potions, scrolls and speed rings from.

Re: New Challenge (Insane Level)
You don't get exp by stealing from shops, but you do get it from monsters.
And it was such a good idea...
Re: New Challenge (Insane Level)
Do monsters, killed by magic bolts bouncing of a shield of reflection, count as kills?
Re: New Challenge (Insane Level)
the xp gain for stealing is indeed from monsters and not stores.
The amount of xp depends on the weight of the item stolen.
My method was to get a co-aligned eagle to kill mature dragons until one left a corpse.
Carry the corpse back to Bree and try to get a blubbering idiot to go down the short dead end path just below the prancing pony. Let him pick up the corpse, corner him at the end of the path and macro your attempt to steal the corpse back. I have a roll of coins that I set on the macro trigger, but you can just hold your finger down instead. Watch out for sparrows and your hunger level. If you maxed your dex when you created your character you ought to eventually steal it.
I usually gain the first few levels with something lighter like a pick or stack of pints of ale or something, then boost the stealing skill as much as I can.

Ah, excellent. Hadn't thought of stealing from monsters.

Correct! Don't carry a shield of reflection!martinuzz wrote:Do monsters, killed by magic bolts bouncing of a shield of reflection, count as kills?

Re: New Challenge (Insane Level)
I am trying out the rogue... It does seem strange that they are the only class able to gain xp by stealing...
I am torn between an ent rogue and a thunderlord rogue... the ent would have the boulder-throwing skill which would probably be better than the manathrust (how much damage can a lvl 37 manathrust do? thinking of 50 prayer + mage staff w/ 12 power) though it would be slower.

And the Ents have that penalty to speed to worry about. You might even want to go with a Wood Elf, since they get a good bonus to Dex and tree walking.

Re: New Challenge (Insane Level)
The stealth penalty is almost irrelevant, since the rogue bonus is so high. You spend 33 points instead of 25.madmonk wrote:Thunderlord?

I was thinking ents for the boulder-throwing though... and then I could boost up my temporal skill so my speed wouldnt be as much of a problem.Xandor Tik'Roth wrote:And the Ents have that penalty to speed to worry about. Re: New Challenge (Insane Level)
There is another god besides Eru who you can increase piety with without killing- Melkor. The best way to do this would be to find a level with a library and a dark altar and sacrifice books.
Melkor would be good because with Curse at 35 or above you would be able to reduce armor class, speed and hp, so eventually you should be able to kill anything even if you deal out puny damage. You also get fire immunity and some other useful things if you are praying and have high piety.

yvanna too would let you get piety without killing monsters... but yeah melkor would be good... you can even up your damage considerably if you lower your health.
