I had a recent character who used a high level Listen to the Music and ironman rooms to find Sting. By the time he found it, the only artifacts not generated were the guaranteed drops that I hadn't bothered with, the Eternity items, and the Ring of Phasing, Ring of Precognition, and the Scroll of Deincarnation

I'll ditto IckyThingBane, I've found Sting 4 or 5 times and the Ring of Precognition once. The peek into generated items/monsters gets really annoying by the time you start finding pits.

Having my manathust macro both unequip and drop my lightsource while in a deep dark dungeon. Being unable to get back to it due to nasties in the way and being completely unable to cast spells or do anything else as a result. :x

Along those lines, one of my most disappointing moments was visiting Nether Realm with a character that had INNATE precognition. (It was in Theme) The place was decidedly not fun with precognition making every level change a lengthy chore and the utter deadliness of the place making stairscumming a necessity. And, it was a long dungeon and I had to go through its whole length, down AND up, level by level since Probability Travel didn't work there.

Never again.
Zothiqband -- still an Angband variant.

I may have had weird luck then since I've found Sting and the ring of precog once each. Small sample size.

And yeah, it was actually a serious pain to wear since I was using ironman rooms. I think I would have promptly given up in your situation, Nerdanel.

I have also only found each once but when i found sting it was just after i started playing and i don't really remember it. I think i didn't really know what sentient weapons did.
I do what I Must because I can, for the good of all of us...except the ones who are dead...

I turn on the "Automatically clear -more- prompts" option in the Nether Realm when I have precognition (usually on the way out). It is still deadly boring.

"The Water hound creates a whirlpool"(x23)
I just lost my most promising character yet on level 92 of Angband. Recalled to the dungeon, detected, said "Oh crap..." and then I was dead. Stupid unresistable leveled monsters.
