Just curious... how do you pronounce those greater versions of regular items that do more, such as *Identify* and *Slay Demon*?

Um... I've never said it out loud, come to think of it. Shouting it out as a heraldic "IDENTIFY!" seems a little overkill. I might call it major identify or true identify, I guess. Or, as Christopher has already mentioned, "*Identify*".
Never really thought about it before, to be honest. A lot of the facets of this game I just internalize as for granted. After all, if you're using ASCII mode as I do, you always rub your hands together with glee when you see a "M" wandering about south of Bree. (Either that or you run for your life....

Having said that I don't really pronounce *Identify*, I've thought about it a bit, and have to confess that when I see a *Defender* weapon, I do usually think, de-FEND-er.....

What Nerdanel and MM said; I don't generally speak out loud of ToME details. If at some point I should really really have to pronounce it, I'd probably do the same thing I do with other asterisk-surrounded text: make the asterisks with my hands while saying "identify".
In conclusion, I need to pound my head repeatedly with blunt objects until I stop talking like this. --Professor_Scissors
I talk with friends about tome. We say:
"Star-Star-Identify"
