I am 21, and i used to think i was one of the younger angband players, but looks like i am not.
as far as games with no graphics...i started playing Muds when i was 13 and a half or so...which are text based games as you all know i suppose.

i will be probably frowned upon for that, but i must admit i also like games with uber-3D-graphics, mostly in the FPS and the sport genre. (though the ones I actually play these days are all multiplayer games...and playing with your friends is a different story of course...especially if your friends just dont tend to take a keen interest in your newest troll-hermit-unbeliever and all the D-s and L-s he has slaughtered)
I also find that my gamer-friends, who are usually 4-8 years older than me, and some even owned commodore 64s back than, frown upon games with bad graphics more than anyone else.

Actually...I have to admit that the game that brought my attention to roguelikes, was ZangandTK (*dodges a couple of arrows of slay Artagas*), that actually has relatively spiffy graphics (found it on an abandon/unkown ware site, that i wont advertise, while looking for old crpgs...i dont really like the new ones). It took many hours until i realized, how much easier it was to perceive things in ascii mode (especially in places like vaults) , and today i find it lot more enjoyable to play without tiles.

I'm 18 and been playing since I was 12-13.

there surely are nice newer games. I bought metroid prime for gamecube and it was awesome!

I'm also a great fan of the snes rpgs (secret of mana/chrono trigger/final fantasies) even thought they have some graphics, they have quite deep gameplay and general kickass.
I actually prefer playing secret of mana with one or two friends (cause I barely played it) instead of playing ToME.

I play also Diablo II, NWN, Master of Magic on PC, FF7/8/9/10 and Chrono Trigger on PSX/PS2 (I'm RPG addicted :D ).

I'm 51 and started playing Rogue in 1983. Does that count as a roguelike, or can only other games be like Rogue?

I guess rogue is a roguelike... the most roguelike of all roguelikes.

But I remember a rumor of charlie chaplin coming 3rd in a charlie chaplin lookalike comptetition.

I'd say Rogue was pretty much like Rogue. Can't even tell the difference in my case :D

16 over here!

Yep, ToME is a mighty fine game that beats many others. Other ASCII games I love like family are ZZT and Megazeux (Play them, they'll do you GOOD). But I'm not completely chastising modern games... out of Phantasy Star Online and Pac-Man I know what I wanna play. (Anyone play PSO here? It has some minor relations to *bands and ToME: Artifact hunting, identifying, slays, ego items, classes and races, even some minor symbiosis...)
