Trouble keeping onine/profile connection

#1 Post by chsck »

Returning to the game recently I began having trouble with staying connected once I leave the main menu.
When launching the game it displays i'm logged in and te4.org later confirms that there was a login. On steam version it still has all my unlocks and donator features (possessor, my beloved psionic), but loading or creating a character displays a message "Online profile disabled due to no profile active". This means no in-game chat and no profile updates on te4.org (it doesn't notice new unlocks and doesn't update characters on the site). Quitting to the main menu reveals I'm not logged in anymore. Attempts to log back in fail - "Steam client not found".
Using te4.org version has similar results (AND doesn't let me use Exploration/Possessor).
Thing I tried: disabling firewall, reinstalling both versions, clearing T-engine folder, launching from admin, using phone connection instead of wi-fi.
Attaching debug log files, but can't find anything coherent about error messages there. Please help me understand what's wrong.

Welcome to the forums Chsck,

Your logs both report repeated DHCP errors - DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) failure would typically result in total loss of network access. Are you using any type of virtual machine for running TOME (in which case its network configuration might be the issue) or have you encountered network problems with other applications? (since you can post here, you clearly have some level of access).

The only other option that springs to mind is security software limiting network access on a per-application basis. You mention disabling a firewall - which one do you use?

I'm not very tech savvy, so I might mix thing up. I use Windows 10 normally without any viltual machines for ToME. There is no special security installed, aside from those that came with the system - Windows Defender (which never interrupted ToME and ) and common Windows Brandmauer (I assume that's firewall?). There are "complications" with access to cloudflare and some other services where I am, but ToME is the only one displaying mid-session unfixable disconnects, so I am uncertain if that is what's causing issues.
