Generating level...........

Well, children. Sit down. Let me tell you a short tale of epic proportions. Not so much epic, but it's a tale. Or more of a story. Read pls.

Insane level. Ogre. Motherlicking Archmage. Lightning. Some arcane. More lightning. A hell of a lot of lightning really. Kicking asses left and right. Asses have seldomly been so smacked. The epic tale was well on the way, until suddenly, abruptly, there was an impossible encounter at level 10 High peaks (or well, the stairs leading to level 10). Here I was struck by the unfairness of generation. In this specific case, the epic boss "Generating level" came around. Turns out this is one no one can beat. And yes, the actual stairs got me, not the boss protecting them. I sort of slipped on the way up.
About here I enter the first stage of grief: Denial. How could this be? It should solve itself soon. Shouldn't it..? I scanned the forums for solutions. Nothing. Well, apart from a post from 2020 that claims that this was fixed with a patch 1.7. Alledgedly.

--> Force restart of the game after ~20 mins.
--> Last save: entering High peaks level 1.
Sigh
Entered stage 2 of grief: Anger.
Quickly turns in to a combination of 2, 3 and 4, Anger, Bargain and Depression.

I go to take a quick pee. To mourn a little. To tell my wife (who doesn't give one flying f by the way) Some much needed change of scenery SINCE I SPENT QUITE THE TIME ON THIS CHARACTER, and the better part of the last hour clearing High peaks.

Well. To get the setting correctly. Let's imagaine accidentally restarting a song at 90% played, and the epic parts worth listening to are the last 10%, and there is no way of jumping back. Or, microwaving a meal, but stopping it short. Then eating it cold-ish. Or stopping a wee in the middle of it, forcing it to stop. Snipping a turd off in half, standing up without wiping, tumble out the door with pants down, onto a busy street. That sorta feeling, you know what I'm talking about.
Finally, I reach stage 5 of grief, Acceptance.

I am ready to move on. To try again. I tell myself that I have grown from the experience. That I if I can master this grief, can I simply not master this run once more? Get back on the horse, just like the good old days? I have been given a new chance. A chance to do it all over again, but better.

--> Now. Steading myself. Slapping my face to sort of get the mind right. I just did this, how hard can it be? Moving in. I sort of remember the ways I took these 9 stairs down from where I just was.. I sort of know where to go. And who to fight.
Intense fighting happens.
Only boss left for stairs to reach level 2.
Long story short
--> You have died!
.. by first boss guarding the stairs to level 2.

Without any logs, there's no way to know what caused this.

To prevent future fuckery, you can turn on "Save per floor" from options to autosave each level instead of only when changing zones.
