'Inner Demons' break the 'Cleaning the trash' quest?

#1 Post by mckwack »

Long story short, I was trying to clear the 'Cleaning the trash' quest by killing the 'Big Boss' (I tried not to spoil too much here) when.. it didn't happen.. :?

The 'Boss' was killed, all the henchmen were killed.. but I didn't get the 'Quest Completed' pop-up as usual.. instead, my journal shows that the quest is still active..

A couple of things that might have 'broken' the quest, and my thoughts on why I think it wasn't that one that 'broke the quest':
- I missed one of the henchmen: possible, since I was blinded during most of the fight and simply fling my spells left right and center and let my own henchman to do the killing. However an extensive search with 'Track' shows no enemies left alive. Also I confirmed killing at least 2 of the henchmen and the Boss after I'm no longer blinded, and my henchman killed at least 1 more from dropped item while still being blinded.
- I accidentally teleported into the room instead of opening the door: possible? but not likely since the countdown started the moment we entered the floor, not the room.
- I killed everyone before the countdown has finished: possible? but also not likely since the countdown only concerned about the fates of the captives, not the enemies.
- I accidentally hit some of the captives while fighting blindly: possible? but AFAIK the welfare of the captives have no relevance to the completion of the quest itself (once completed the quest with all captives killed).
- There are at least 2 'Inner Demons' copies of the Boss left when the Boss was killed: possible? Could the game have mistaken the copies as the Boss itself? And since I didn't exactly kill the copies.. :(

Also, when I exited the area and entered it again, somehow the BGM continued playing the world map BGM instead of the area-specific BGM. This is the one that convinced me that the quest has been broken somehow.. :(

Tried to ask around using in-game chat, but still couldn't mark the quest as completed one way or the other. I still have a copy of my save files just after I exited the area in case anyone would want to analyze it for bugs or some such. Otherwise I have 'moved on' and continue to finish the game, and left the quest as is.

Any thoughts, comments, even insults are welcomed.

Cheers.

PS: yes, I did this quest mostly for the unlock, so it's quite disheartening when I didn't get the unlock even though all conditions have been fulfilled, not to mention that this is already my nth time doing the unlock.. nvm, I'll just have to create another character and start all over again for the unlock.. there's always the n+1th time I suppose.. :(

Best I can tell, this is referring to the Krog unlock quest, according to a JP tome wiki page I was able to find and translate.

mckwack, according to the wiki page, all four captives must remain alive (and, presumably, non-hostile?) in order to actually get the unlock, but the wiki is a notoriously unreliable source and I can't say from memory whether or not that is true (or has been changed). Inner Demons is also occasionally buggy on its own, although I don't think I've ever had it fail to complete a quest for me it wouldn't surprise me if it contributed to some arcane code lockup. None of the rest of your proposed breaks seem likely to be the case, the door shouldn't matter, you MUST finish before the end of the countdown, and track should have found any leftover enemies - I think even if they were invisible (at least, eventually).

Your best bet at this point is probably to try the unlock again on a new character, or if you don't mind being a bit cheeky, going into the game files and editing it yourself to unlock Krog. Nothing wrong with a lil unobtrusive cheating in a single player game, and it's not like you haven't put the work in already.
Let slip the toast of war.

Thanks PseudoLoneWolf.

The problem is, even when all 4 captives are dead, the quest will update with a 'Quest failed' pop up after all enemies are killed (happened on another character of mine).

In this case however, the quest is still active even after all enemies are killed and all four captives are saved and sound and non-hostile.. :(

Never mind, I already made 2 or so new characters to try another shot of the unlock.. gotta remember NOT to use Inner Demons this time around.. :P

PS: AFAIK you don't have to finish the quest before the end of the countdown, you could still save the captives as long as you could keep them out of harm's way somehow.. *hinthint*
PPS: why open a JP tome wiki when you could simply access the English wiki?

I thought at the end of the countdown the ritual goes off and they die? Cause that is how I failed mt first time. I tried to wait out the clock and turned invisible and then locked the boss away in the time prison rune

AFAIK they don't die right away, but they were released from the time prison and starts taking damage.

I managed to heal some of them during my previous run, but the damage from the boss was way too much and some of them died anyway.. :(

I would support the 'inner demon' theory, as I am currently having exactly the same problem.

It's been 3 years by now, btw. How has that not been fixed? *baffled*

Just had the same issue with Inner Demons, also used Dreamscape on the boss

I cleared all mobs before timer finished and quest remains uncompleted.

Might be because I haven't reported it as bug yet, since there has been no other reports of similar issue happening since my initial post.

Any chance we could move this post to the Bugs section please? Better than starting a new post since the history would be lost if I do.

Thanks Mod. :)
