Blank Squares of Dirt

#1 Post by noteventhechair »

The Blank squares of dirt I see in Kroshkkur and when ambushed are apparently
linked to the egress codes somehow. How do I get the actual codes from them?

You read them from left to right (if that's the same, you use up from down). You can enter them in "Way to a strange Portal".

I don't think you are understanding OP's point.

This is an issue I've debated raising as well.

The tiles that the OP refers to, which also are the ones used in High Peak 3, are way too understated. The blue of the pattern has no contrast w/ the substrate and is way too faint.

I understand the intent to be 'mysterious' but the current version really is completely unintelligible in many cases. This is often compounded by a partial occlusion due to appearing in a horizontal corridor.

The majority of gamers are and will for some time be comprised of young males w/ very modern computing equipment. All of the devs likely have the best equipment and never see the game on older machines. This creates a disconnect and a prejudice (which your response reflects) that is difficult to bridge. I hope you will consider that there are others whose vision is less sharp or are less informed or have an older machine w/ smaller screen - or all of these - which may be having a completely different experience than you.

I know exactly what these tiles are, what they are suppose to represent and how to read them. When I have to I take a screenshot and pull it into pshop in order to read them.

I call this a graphical bug. I hope the devs treat this as a bug.

I get what you mean, I really do. :(

On older monitors, it's easy to adjust the brightness and/or contrast/sharpness by using the dials. NOT so easy on laptops without any 'dials' to adjust anything.. At any rate it was 'adjustable' back in 1.6.7 at least, although I haven't been to Kroshkur since 1.7.0 to see it again.

To OP, there should be some sort of shapes on those 'blank squares of dirt in Kroshkur'. Try to adjust the gamma (I think it's what is called nowadays) to make it brighter / darker until you could see those shapes. I hope this helps.
Growing old is mandatory..
Growing up, is completely optional.. ;)

It's ridiculous to call something prejudice because of something like that. OP could have easily meant something else.
I get what you mean, but it's still bs. Btw I'm running on a super slow machine and am impaired in color vision.
Most developers are probably not aware or don't bother to invest money into that, but prejudice? Not really.

I hope you will consider that there are others whose vision is less sharp or are less informed or have an older machine w/ smaller screen - or all of these - which may be having a completely different experience than you.
The one judging people unrightfully and out of context is you.

That being said, of course I am for more awareness and support for any sort of restrictions people experience.

Thank you Smithfield, that is exactly what I wanted to know. I am indeed playing with an old laptop and substandard vision, but now that I know what I'm looking for, tilting the screen and squinting works about 90% of the time.

Calliginosus' response would also have helped on its own, by telling me that others found the information apparent and didn't have to invoke or activate the squares somehow.

I think I'll report a bug now.

@Caliginous:

BTW. Sorry about that first post. I didn't really ground properly before
applying charge. I could defend what I said, but I don't want to, you didn't
deserve to be spoken to thus. I have no quarrel with you and I hope this one
can slide off the calendar with the rest of 2020. Happy Holidays to one and
all, and in the future, I promise to never ever make any more posts just after
starting a pain medication (true...).
