[Resolved] Equipment material & tier are mismatched

EDIT: This is not a bug; see replies below. I edited the the topic subject to reflect this.

This bug is still in 1.7.0 and was also in 1.6.7: Attached are screenshots showing dwarven-steel items that are tier 2; not t3, as they should be if they were actually dwarven-steel.
  • The tier is the real value: If I use the A.P.E. the dwarven-steel/t2 items produce t2 ore. However, I don't know if the bug is that dwarven-steel is being "downgraded" to t2; or if the t2 items are displaying incorrectly as dwarven-steel.
  • Not all steel items display as dwarven-steel; I also have rare t2 items that display correctly as steel.
  • This also happens with stralite items (tier 3, instead of t4).
  • I'm fairly sure this happens with other item types besides armor/weapons (e.g. jewelry, diggers).*
  • I'm pretty sure this happens with regular magical items as well, not just rares.*
* I'll update as I find more examples.

Including the full item descriptions, in case there's particular egos that cause the bug.

Not a bug, some slots only have 3 types, the tier is still respected properly, it's just the same item type for 2 tiers. I believe gloves do that specifically because of some brawler balancing thing but helm/boots just do it for no specific reason I guess.

This is not a bug but an intended change related to gloves. Tier 3 & Tier 5 gloves have virtual tiers of 2 & 4 respectively. This change was made to address the long gap between weapon upgrades on brawlers. The gloves drop according to their virtual tier (2 & 4) but have stats based on their actual tier (3 % 5)

Note that if this happens with helmets/other items than gloves, that's a bug but I have never seen that happen nor have you provided examples of it happening

In that case, Dwarven-Steel gauntlets producing Steel from the APE is a bug. :p

Even if it's the 'intended' outcome, it's at least a bug in the sense that the UI is misleading. (Which reminds me -- has the crit-shrug change filtered into talent descriptions yet, or do a bunch of them still lie about what they do?)

That was the only reason I noticed the bug in 1.6.7, when I excitedly melted voratun only to get stralite.

Here's an example of melting "dwarven-steel" to get steel:
