We all know that saws can be treated both as weapons and as shields, and there're 2H saws which are double weapon and are also treated as 2h weapons lol, and among them is a thing called Razorlock which hits 4 times per attack, and this is where fun starts.
Facts about Razorlock:
1) Among the 4 hits, 2 are considered as mainhand attacks and 2 offhand (suffering offhand damage penalty).
2) If you equip another weapon in offhand (by ogre-wielding), this weapon attack will replace the 2 offhand hits. Non-melee-weapons (like shields and guns) don't affect this. Both the Razorlock and the offhand weapon (if any) suffer the proc damage penalty.
3) If you can also have tentacle (by ogre-wielding), your mainhand attack and offhand attack both contain 3 Razorlock hits and 1 tentacle hit. Both the Razorlock and the tentacle suffer the proc damage penalty.
Facts about other 2H saws:
1) You hit once as mainhand attack and once as offhand attack per attack.
2) If you equip another weapon in offhand (by ogre-wielding), this weapon attack will replace the offhand hit. Non-melee-weapons (like shields and guns) don't affect this. Both the saw and the offhand weapon (if any) suffer the proc damage penalty.
3) If you can also have tentacle (by ogre-wielding), your mainhand attack and offhand attack both contain 1 saw hit and 1 tentacle hit. Both the saw and the tentacle suffer the proc damage penalty.
Please remember what "mainhand attack" contains in these cases because I'll use this term in the following section.
Facts about the talents with shield attacks:
1) If you're equipping a saw in offhand, it is treated as a shield and things work normally. You Shield Pummel and Slam with the saw. By using Assault you attack with the saw once and then your mainhand-weapon twice. By using talents saying "This talent will also attack with your shield, if you have one equipped", you attack with your mainhand-weapon once and the saw once per attack.
2) If you're equipping a 1H saw in mainhand, and not equipping a saw/shield in offhand, your offhand weapon will be ignored totally. You Shield Pummel and Slam with the saw. By using Assault you attack with the saw three times, 2 of which auto-crit. By using talents saying "This talent will also attack with your shield, if you have one equipped", you attack with the saw twice per attack. This makes equipping a 1H saw in mainhand and having tentacle appealing.
3) Stoneshield requires a real shield in offhand and the saw in mainhand don't count.
4) If you're equipping a 2h saw, all shield attacks use the mainhand attack of the saw. Example: if you're ogrewielding the Razorlock and using the tentacle, by using Assault you'll hit with the Razorlock 9 times, 6 of which auto-crit, and hit with the tentacle 3 times, 2 of which auto-crit.
Saws also benefit from Form and Function both as weapons (more accuracy and weapon damage) and as shields (more armor and less fatigue).
