Are they really invincible ??

#1 Post by Warfouyn »

Hi guys, greetings, I'm a rooky in this new game I've just found!
I met some invincible mob. I mean I fought for 15min without being able to kill these monsters, telling me over time they running out of mana or other but not! they heal or drain I dont know
In this game elite monsters are random or well positioned??
The first one is a tentacle manlike with bone Shell Armor around, he is in the third level of the underwater building (himself inside the forest in the middle if the lake) In description he have some healing rune, so maybe I do not hit strong enough
The second is in daikara pass, elite undead vampire, this one havent rune in description so I dont how he so it to gain full life...
I leave without take the name.. but the question is the same, random or positionned?
Thank you

If you don't have enough damage, resist penetration, or ways to disable their talents, some enemies may be unkillable by your character. That's not the same as being really invincible because a character with the right tools could kill that enemy. These enemies should be pretty rare for a character with decent gear and decent build/class though.

There may be a very small number of NPCs that truly are unkillable. If I remember correctly, the Grand Corruptor and his allies become unkillable after helping them destroy Zigur., but they aren't hostile to you at that point. That's the only example that comes to mind though.

EDIT: The other thing to keep in mind is whether an area is appropriate for your character's level. If you're new to the game, you may be attempting areas that are too hard and should be saved for later. Zones will scale with your character's level within a certain range, but there are minimum and maximum levels for this scaling. Some areas just have more difficult enemies by design. One of the enemies you were describing sounds like the Weirdling Beast in Lake of Nur, which tends to be a somewhat difficult fight for characters that aren't prepared.

another thing which you may not know: monsters are created on a level based on your level. So if you enter the dungeon of this unkillable monster-man when you are level 12, then leave, do some other dungeons and return at level 18 with better gear, harder attack talents and a lot more HP, he'll suddenly seem easy.

The more you play, the more you know which dungeons are prime candidates for stepping into, saying 'Hi - let's meet in a few levels' and leave right away.

They're only invincible for a few turns, actually. If you wait a bit, you can kill them off once the effect wears off. There's even an achievement for it, heh.

There are some just flatly or functionally invincible things in the game, but it's very few and usually involves some sort of gimmick. Know I'm forgetting some, but one example is some of the enemies in the embers campaign's final fight. They're not meant to be killed at all, and it would take some remarkably broken stuff to even meaningfully attempt it. Pretty sure the dwarf below boss is in a similar position, though I can't remember if it's actually invincible or just like griggy and theoretically able to be straight punched to death if you had enough respen...

The only thing I can think of that is outright, truly invincible might be the Eidolon. And maybe your castle's butler?

And shopkeepers, by virtue of being sentient doors rather than NPCs.
Let slip the toast of war.

Ok thank you for comments,
Yes I came back after and it was easier, and after my first death, I realise monsters are random (alike the guardian of shegur building)
Ok so it works like this :> "monsters" created when we enter inside the dungeon, ok ;) thank you

Also, in certain cases, monsters can be actually invincible until you come within sight of them. Or, more to the point, until they can see or detect you. It used to be, iirc, found in general dungeons (and maybe still is) but monsters in vaults can be invincible. If you hover the pointer over them, the description will actually say "INVULNERABLE!" (all caps, with exclamation mark, just to make sure we really pick up on it), presumably to prevent characters from blasting them out of existence as they just sit there, not knowing you're around. This ensures, for example, that the room of death in the East is an actual challenge for spell-casters. That's even one of the places you can be guaranteed to see the mechanic in action -- the overpowered dragons are unreactive until you enter the room, so some sort of telepathy combined with a spell that can reach them from the doorway allows you to watch as you blast them to no effect.

As I said, it used to be like that for many monsters in the regular parts of dungeons and I think it might still be...alchemists with massive AoE attacks suddenly became a lot less lethal when the couldn't just send bombs down unexplored corridors or into unexplored rooms and kill off everything before sauntering in to gather the loot. Nerfing this mechanic was great for game balance but I do kinda miss never even seeing an enemy face to face while exterminating the level. It wasn't fair, but it was safe.
