I can't seem to start the modified Alchemist quest, due to the Potioncraft skill being missing. Is there something I need to do to unlock this now?

You should have started with the talent. It might not be on the hotbar.
Alternatively, if auto assigned starting talents is disabled, then you might be missing it. (But wouldn't that stop other classes from starting with Shoot?)

I decided to test all that on the ToME patch that just rolled out.

Started a Mardrop Alchemist, also didn't get Potioncraft. It's not in the talent menu thing (the one that defaults to M) either. My golem started with a dwarvensteel battleaxe and stralite mail, too, which seems odd.

I then rolled a Cornac Alchemist, which also didn't get Potioncraft, but her golem started with the expected iron battleaxe and iron mail.

As further testing, with the same game settings (not auto-assigning talents, namely), I rolled a Cornac Woodsman from your Verdant mod, and he did start with Shoot.

I started a new alchemist and did enable auto-assign talent points this time. Still no Potioncraft skill.

It's not on either the hotbar or the Use Talents menu.

The altered Alchemist quest does appear to be active because NPC alchemists won't give me quests.

This happens even if Arcanum is the only addon installed.


Edit: Even going into debug mode and leveling to 50 with the option to unlock and learn all available talents, I didn't get potioncraft. The only way I was able to make it appear was by selecting the option to unlock all talent types in the game.

Turns out it wasn't the slightest bit weird. I just didn't think about how I ordered my code.
I also fixed a small omission that meant that I was using forbidden lua black magic for the past 7 years...
All of my class addons are doing it, so I guess I should fix them before the Demons discover they can use that as a way in.

I encountered an error that appears to have to do with the Flux spell. This happened while fighting a randboss. The error appeared to occur every time it tried to use the spell.

Updated:

Stupid typo I should not have made in Flux has been fixed.
If you have the Upgraded Staff Category active, the Alchemist Escort quests should not have Channel Staff as a reward anymore.
Angolwen no longer stocks Antimagic powered Wardstones.
Reduced the flood of items in Arcanum affected shops. (Forgot to do Verdant. Will be in the next update.)

I was too, since I was pretty sure it was already blocked. Maybe it isn't.
So I just added a specific filter for the Wardstones.

It wouldn't surprise me if it's not, since the only gear that's sold there by default are staves and rings, and I don't think any of those can -be- antimagic.

Updated:

The Gates of Morning should now stock Ritual Blades and Wardstones. (Includes the Mystic Supplies shop in the Training Camp, if it exists.)
Hopefully Steam hasn't messed up this time and it won't redownload the addon every time you run the game.

I've been having a really mixed bag of results with enchanter. It's surprising how much I miss being able to reach out and touch some teleporting douchebag at range 10, with staff. The variety of attack ranges / shapes which Staff Nova used to have was something I'd use a lot. I'm not missing the Stormpulse errors at all though :D

Yeah I wasn't happy with what I had to do with Staff Nova, but I didn't feel like it fitted the new category.
What staff attack used to be range 10 and is now not usable?
